For an always-on prerecorded YouTube stream, choose a cloud service built for continuous playback; for local control, OBS Studio can loop a video or playlist, but the computer and internet connection must stay available. StreamNeo is the first option to consider if you want an uploaded video or playlist to run from the cloud. YouTube’s encoder documentation also lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streaming. StreamYard fits scheduled, finite prerecorded broadcasts rather than one uninterrupted loop. These are different workflows, not interchangeable features.
Best software by use case
| Rank and option | Best for | What it does | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | Running uploaded videos on a continuous YouTube stream without leaving a computer on | Cloud-based 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot. The first day is free with no card. | YouTube only; it plays uploaded videos and does not stream from a camera. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots. |
| 2. Gyre | Cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming | YouTube’s verified-encoder documentation describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded streams without a dedicated PC. | That listing establishes it as a candidate, not a tested winner. Current price, terms, uptime, and availability were not established here; verify them with the provider before subscribing. |
| 3. OBS Studio | Local playback, control, and looping a file or playlist | OBS supports looping a Media Source file and playlists through its VLC Video source. OBS documents these sources for Windows, macOS, and Linux. | The computer, power, encoder, and internet connection must remain available. No continuous uptime is guaranteed. |
| 4. StreamYard prerecorded streaming | Automatically starting a scheduled prerecorded broadcast | Its help page says a scheduled broadcast starts at its selected time and ends when the uploaded video finishes. | The current documented per-video limits are 2 hours on Core, 4 hours on Advanced, and 8 hours on Team and Business, so this is not one continuous 24/7 loop. Check the current plan names and limits. |
| 5. Restream | Connecting a YouTube channel and configuring stream delivery | Its YouTube streaming guide documents account connection and technical setup. | The guide does not establish Restream as the best standalone choice for an always-on prerecorded loop. Confirm that the specific workflow you need is supported. |
StreamNeo’s plans have the same features; only the billing length changes. Compare a service’s current terms, video limits, quality support, recovery behavior, and archive needs before committing.
Choose a continuous loop, local encoder, or scheduled broadcast
Cloud playback for an unattended channel
A cloud service runs the playback outside your home or office, so your own computer does not need to stay on. StreamNeo’s workflow is to upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. YouTube’s encoder list independently identifies Gyre as a cloud option for 24/7 prerecorded streams. Neither listing is a comparative performance test, so do not treat either as a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
OBS when you want local control
OBS is a good fit if you want to manage playback on a computer you control. Its Media Source can loop a file after it finishes; its VLC Video source can play a playlist, with Loop Playlist on by default. The trade-off is operational: the machine running OBS must stay powered, connected, and able to send the stream.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Scheduled prerecorded broadcasts
Choose a scheduled-broadcast workflow when you want a prerecorded video to start at a chosen time and end after that video. StreamYard’s documented limits—2 hours on Core, 4 on Advanced, and 8 on Team and Business—are per-video maximums, not evidence of a single 24-hour loop. Verify limits and plan availability on the service’s current help page before relying on them.
What you need before going live on YouTube
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says initial live-stream access can take up to 24 hours to enable.
- YouTube’s current help guidance sets a minimum age of 16 for live streaming.
- YouTube lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 streams per stream key.
- Use content you have the rights to stream, and review YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service before broadcasting.
- Decide whether you need a replay archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer continuous stream will be saved as one complete replay.

Set up a prerecorded stream with OBS
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, complete channel verification and enable live streaming. Allow up to 24 hours for initial access if required.
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Create → Go live and set up a stream. Use the stream’s server URL and stream key in OBS; keep the key private because anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Add the prerecorded file. In OBS, add a Media Source, select the video file, and enable Loop if it should repeat. For a playlist, add a VLC Video source, select the playlist, and confirm Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Configure video and audio. Use a resolution and frame rate suited to the source. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends keyframes every 2 seconds, not exceeding 4 seconds, and supports H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS. For H.264, its recommended bitrate is 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that a particular connection can sustain them.
- Use RTMPS and connect OBS. YouTube recommends RTMPS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the YouTube service, and enter or connect the stream key as appropriate for your setup. Confirm that the selected YouTube server URL and key match the broadcast.
- Test before committing to a long run. Start with representative motion and audio, then check YouTube’s stream health and OBS for dropped frames or connection problems before relying on the broadcast.
- Start streaming and monitor it. Begin the stream from OBS and verify that YouTube receives it. For a local 24/7 stream, plan for computer restarts, power interruptions, internet outages, and software maintenance; the loop setting only repeats media while the encoder is running.
OBS’s Media Sources documentation explains its file and playlist sources. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers stream URL, keys, testing, and archiving.
Technical settings that affect stream stability
Bitrate, resolution, and frame rate
Choose an output your upload connection can sustain consistently, not merely the highest setting available. YouTube’s 10 Mbps H.264 recommendation for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60 are ingestion recommendations. Higher frame rates and resolutions need more bandwidth; a fluctuating connection can interrupt delivery even when the encoder settings are valid.

Codec and keyframes
YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 and recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, with a maximum of 4 seconds. If you are using OBS, check both the selected encoder and its keyframe interval against YouTube’s current settings page rather than relying on a generic preset.
Stream key and simultaneous streams
A stream key links the encoder output to your YouTube broadcast. Treat it like a password and regenerate it if it is exposed. YouTube currently lists up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key; if you reach a limit, stop streams you no longer need or use a different key where appropriate.

Copyright, reused content, and monetization
A loop is a delivery method, not permission to use a video and not a shortcut to monetization. YouTube says live-stream content must follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Its monetization policies warn that repetitive or mass-produced material with little educational value, commentary, narrative, or variation may be ineligible. Reused content may need significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value; permission from a rights holder alone does not establish eligibility under the reused-content policy.
Before streaming, confirm that you control the rights to the video, music, and other material, and consider whether the broadcast offers meaningful original value to viewers. YouTube’s channel monetization policies explain its reused and repetitive content rules.

Replay planning for a 24/7 stream
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A stream intended to run around the clock exceeds that threshold, so do not count on one complete YouTube replay. If preserving a replay matters, plan separate broadcasts shorter than 12 hours and confirm current archive behavior in YouTube Studio; that is a different operating pattern from one uninterrupted stream.
Cost and practical trade-offs
Compare the full operating cost, not just a subscription: local streaming also depends on a computer, electricity, an internet connection, and your time handling interruptions. Cloud services shift playback off your machine, but their current prices, plan restrictions, and terms should be checked directly. StreamNeo charges per slot, with 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots; every plan has the same features and only the billing length changes.
- Daily $0.99 per day
- Weekly $2.99 per week
- Monthly $9.99 per month
- 6 months $49.99 for 6 months
- Yearly $89.99 a year
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Your uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly plan is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded video, not a live camera feed. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
Quick Recap
Troubleshooting common problems
YouTube does not receive the encoder signal
- Likely cause: The stream key or server URL is incorrect, or live access is not enabled.
- Fix: Match the URL and key to the current YouTube broadcast, confirm channel eligibility, and check that OBS is actually streaming.
The stream disconnects or drops frames
- Likely cause: An unstable upload connection, insufficient sustained bandwidth, local computer sleep or restart, or encoder overload.
- Fix: Check YouTube stream health and OBS statistics, reduce output demands if needed, stabilize the connection, and prevent the computer from sleeping. A local loop cannot continue while OBS or its host computer is offline.
The video plays once and stops
- Likely cause: Loop was not enabled for the Media Source, or the playlist loop option is off.
- Fix: Enable Loop for a Media Source or Loop Playlist for the VLC source, then test playback before going live.
The stream has no audio or the wrong picture
- Likely cause: The wrong file or source was selected, or the source’s audio is muted or routed incorrectly.
- Fix: Preview the selected source in OBS, check the audio mixer meters, and test a representative section before starting the public broadcast.
The broadcast ends before the content does
- Likely cause: A scheduled prerecorded service reached its per-video limit or the encoder stopped.
- Fix: Check the service’s current length limit and distinguish a finite scheduled video from a true continuous loop. If using OBS, verify the computer and network remain available.
A long stream is missing from the archive
- Likely cause: The stream exceeded YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive threshold.
- Fix: Do not assume a longer broadcast will be stored as one complete replay. For replay needs, plan shorter broadcasts and check current archive status in YouTube Studio.
