No longer: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launched on November 14, 2025, so changing your region now cannot get you into the game early. Before launch, a New Zealand region switch was reported to give some console and Xbox app users earlier access under the game’s 2025 release schedule. It was not an official, guaranteed method, and it did not apply uniformly to every PC storefront.
What the New Zealand trick meant for Black Ops 7
The “New Zealand trick” refers to changing a console or Xbox app region setting to take advantage of New Zealand’s earlier local-midnight release. For Black Ops 7, PC Gamer reported on November 13, 2025, that some console and Xbox app users could access the game earlier in their own time zone by setting their device to New Zealand. That was a contemporaneous report, not an official Activision procedure or a guarantee for every account: PC Gamer’s Black Ops 7 release-time guide.
The launch has passed. Xbox lists November 14, 2025 as the release date, and Activision says the game is available now. The old region change is not a current early-access option: Xbox’s Black Ops 7 listing and Activision’s editions and access information.
How Black Ops 7’s 2025 launch schedule differed by platform
PC Gamer reported that consoles unlocked at midnight local time, while the Steam and Battle.net PC versions followed scheduled regional launch times. Its New Zealand example was November 14 at 12 a.m. NZST, which it converted to November 13 at 11 a.m. in the UK and 4 a.m. on the US West Coast. These are launch-schedule details reported for Black Ops 7 in 2025—not a template for future Call of Duty releases.

| Platform or storefront | Reported 2025 schedule | What the report said about the New Zealand setting |
|---|---|---|
| Console | Midnight local time, according to PC Gamer’s November 13, 2025 guide. | Some console users setting their device to New Zealand could get access earlier in their own time zone; this was not guaranteed. |
| Xbox app on PC | PC Gamer distinguished this from the Steam and Battle.net regional schedule. | Some Xbox app users changing the device region to New Zealand were reported to get earlier access; no universal procedure was documented. |
| Steam and Battle.net on PC | Scheduled regional launch times, rather than the console local-midnight schedule, according to PC Gamer. | The report did not describe these storefronts as sharing the console/Xbox app method. |
The platforms therefore should not be treated as interchangeable. The report did not establish an exact sequence of account and device changes, a success rate, or how many hours any individual player gained. It also did not confirm that the trick worked for every console or Xbox app account.
What you need to play Black Ops 7 now
Activision lists the game for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox on PC, Battle.net and Steam. Game Pass access is available on Xbox and Xbox PC through Game Pass Ultimate or Game Pass PC, and the subscription must remain active. Xbox’s listing also identifies Windows, says Game Pass access is available, and notes that an Activision account and agreement acceptance are required; a linked mobile number may be required. Availability and services can vary by region.
