Spoilers: This guide covers Leon’s East Raccoon City route, including the Applegate Hotel spider encounter, underground objectives, apartment-area fights and the chapter exit. For the opening collectibles, pick up the newspaper near the starting street and the Mr. Raccoon behind the Café Oasis counter; Leon receives the incident report automatically on arrival.
Opening street: collect the incident file and newspaper
- Move forward from Leon’s starting point. The Report on the Raccoon City Incident is added automatically when he arrives, according to PowerPyx’s collectible guide.
- Look on the ground near the garbage bags for the Raccoon City Incident Newspaper. PowerPyx and the GameFAQs route guide both identify this opening pickup.
Café Oasis: get the Mr. Raccoon
- At the fork, turn right and enter the café on the left.
- Check behind the counter for the Mr. Raccoon collectible.
- Check the kitchen and nearby area for loot before leaving. These are useful detours, while the newspaper and figure are the collectibles specifically identified at the route’s start.
Applegate Hotel: pass through the spider encounter
Continue to the Applegate Hotel, where the spider sequence begins. Prima Games’ walkthrough recommends using Leon’s melee weapon to cut through webs and deal with small spiders as you move through the building. Follow the route upward via the stairs and ladder toward the boss encounter; see Prima’s walkthrough for its step-by-step hotel route.
During the fight, the GameFAQs guide advises moving behind the spider to attack its back weak point and notes that its author found a rifle effective. Treat that as one guide author’s tactic, not a required weapon or a guaranteed strategy. The game supports first- and third-person play, so use the view that helps you track the enemy; PlayStation’s official game page confirms that players can switch between perspectives.
Central Camp and the underground objectives
After the hotel section, continue toward Central Camp. The larger route then leads through a tactical tracker objective and the Cedarbrook Apartments key and distributor, before sending Leon underground to find batteries and operate a valve. Use the landmarks and objective prompts to keep the route straight; the cited guides describe this as a sequence of linked objectives rather than a single uninterrupted path.

Handle the sewage facility valve and second battery
The GameFAQs guide recommends opening the sewage facility valve roughly one third of the way before dealing with the enemy, then completing the turn to align a platform and reach the second battery. Underground enemies can emerge from the ground, so watch for ambushes as you move around the area.
Apartments and East City combat
Continue through the apartments and the later East City encounters. GameFAQs describes mortar fights in this stretch and suggests using a mortar against groups of enemies. This is an optional tactic from that guide, not a required solution. The route also involves a gas can and generator before the crane objectives.

Complete the relay sequence and leave East Raccoon City
After the cranes, follow the final relay and detonator objectives to finish the East Raccoon City section. The guides place the transition afterward toward Raccoon City Center and the RPD.
