To schedule a 4K 60fps YouTube Live stream, open YouTube Studio > Create > Go live > Manage > Schedule stream. Choose Reuse settings or Create new, then configure an encoder to send 3840×2160 video at 60 fps. Start sending the stream before the event, check its preview in Live Control Room, and select Go live when you are ready.
Before you schedule: check channel eligibility and equipment
Enable live streaming
If this is your first time streaming, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Its current live-streaming tips also say your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check eligibility before setting an event time. YouTube’s encoder setup guide and live-streaming tips describe these requirements.
Confirm the encoder can output 4K60
You need an encoder—software or standalone hardware—that can produce 3840×2160 at 60 frames per second with a codec YouTube accepts. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1. Support varies by encoder and by the input and codec combination, so check the specific software or device before relying on it for the event. YouTube’s encoder-setting guidance covers the supported formats.
Check upload capacity and test a representative stream
Your available outbound bandwidth must exceed the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom and testing with a speed test; also test footage with motion and audio similar to the event. A wired connection is one option for connection reliability, but YouTube does not require Ethernet or specify a cable type. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create at the top right.
- Select Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.
- Choose Reuse settings or Create new. Review the stream details and metadata, then save the scheduled event. The exact sequence is in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
The scheduled stream has a shareable upcoming page. YouTube says it may appear in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can select Notify me. Share the event URL with viewers who should receive a reminder. See YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance.
Set the encoder for 2160p at 60 fps
Enter the YouTube destination
In the encoder, select YouTube directly if it offers that integration. Otherwise, copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s Live Control Room into the encoder’s server and key fields. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your event. YouTube describes the connection steps in its encoder setup guide.

Use the video and transport settings
| Setting | Guidance for a 4K60 live stream |
|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 3840×2160 (2160p) at 60 fps |
| Codec | H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, provided your encoder supports the selected format |
| Rate control | CBR (constant bitrate) |
| Keyframe interval | Two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds |
| Latency | Normal latency. YouTube’s “improve for low latency” option is unavailable for 4K/2160 streams. |
These are YouTube’s live-ingest recommendations, not settings for rendering an uploaded video. The platform’s encoder guidance covers codecs, rate control, and keyframes and its 4K latency limitation.
Choose a bitrate without conflating conflicting guidance
YouTube’s English encoder page currently lists AV1/H.265 at 10–40 Mbps and recommends 35 Mbps for H.264 at 2160p60. Its Spanish localized page recommends 35 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 50 Mbps for H.264. The pages present the values differently and do not explain the discrepancy, so there is no single figure that can be represented as universally recommended across both pages. Use the guidance on the YouTube encoder page applicable to your locale and codec, and verify that your upload connection can sustain the chosen bitrate with headroom. See the English encoder settings page and the Spanish localized encoder settings page.

Start early, verify the preview, and end cleanly
- Set up the encoder well ahead of the event. YouTube advises setting it up two hours beforehand and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Its live-streaming tips explain the pre-event timing.
- Start the encoder so it sends video and audio to YouTube. In Live Control Room, wait for the preview and check that picture and sound are correct before the event begins.
- Select Go live in Live Control Room when ready. Monitor stream health and the audio/video during the broadcast; YouTube recommends monitoring the stream and connection in its live-streaming tips.
- When the event is over, select End stream in Live Control Room, then stop sending from the encoder. YouTube documents the workflow in its encoder setup guide.

Troubleshoot common 4K60 scheduling problems
You cannot schedule or start the event
Check that live streaming is enabled and the channel meets YouTube’s verification and recent-restriction requirements. If you just enabled live streaming, activation may still be processing for up to 24 hours. Review YouTube’s setup guide.
The stream does not appear in the preview
Confirm the encoder is running and sending to the correct YouTube stream URL and key. Check that the key belongs to the scheduled event and that the encoder is configured for a supported codec and output. Allow time for the preview to appear before selecting Go live.

The connection is unstable or the stream health is poor
Compare the encoder’s total bitrate with available upload bandwidth and leave the 20% headroom YouTube recommends. Run a speed test, reduce the bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, and test with representative motion and audio. YouTube’s live-streaming tips stress a reliable connection.
The encoder will not produce 2160p60
Check the encoder’s documented limits for the selected input, codec, resolution, and frame rate. A device or application that can stream at lower settings may not support every 4K60 combination. YouTube also does not offer its low-latency optimization for 4K streams, so use normal latency.
Copyright and stream content still matter
A scheduled event and valid encoder settings do not grant rights to the video, music, or other material you broadcast. Confirm you have permission to use all content in the stream and review YouTube’s applicable live-stream policies before going live. The supplied YouTube encoder and scheduling guidance does not establish a blanket exception for reused material.
