To show one still image in a 24/7 YouTube live stream, run a streaming encoder on a server and set the image as its continuing video source. The encoder turns that source into a live video signal and sends it to YouTube using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. The exact image-source setup depends on your encoder; YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a server command for a particular encoder.

What you need

  • A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
  • A server that can run a streaming encoder continuously, with enough outbound bandwidth for the chosen stream profile.
  • A still image configured as the encoder’s continuing video input. If the encoder requires a video signal, configure it to keep producing that signal from the image.
  • The stream URL and stream key for the YouTube broadcast.

The image-source configuration is encoder-specific. YouTube’s official setup guidance covers connecting an encoder and stream characteristics, but does not provide a static-image command for FFmpeg or another particular encoder. Follow the documentation for the encoder you choose rather than relying on an unverified command.

Set up the YouTube broadcast

  1. Enable live streaming. If the channel has never streamed before, allow for YouTube’s stated first-time enablement delay of up to 24 hours.
  2. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream there.
  3. Copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter both in the encoder’s output or destination settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your broadcast. Reset it if it is exposed.
  4. Choose RTMPS if your encoder supports it. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP protected with TLS/SSL; copy the RTMPS ingest URL shown in Live Control Room rather than substituting an address from another setup.

Configure the server encoder

Use the image as a continuous source

In the encoder, select the still image as the video input or scene and configure the source to remain active rather than ending after one frame. If your stream needs sound, configure an audio source too; YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs. If it is intentionally silent, check how your encoder handles audio output and confirm the resulting stream is accepted in Live Control Room.

Set the encoder to send its output to the URL and key copied from Live Control Room. The precise menu names, source options, and command-line syntax vary by encoder, so use that encoder’s documentation for the implementation details.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose a sustainable stream profile

YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; frame rates up to 60 fps; AAC or MP3 audio; and constant bitrate encoding. Use a profile your encoder supports and your server can sustain. For a static image, a high frame rate or resolution may offer little visible benefit, while increasing bandwidth needs.

  • Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
  • Bitrate: Choose a bitrate appropriate to the output resolution and codec. No current official guidance establishes one universal bitrate for all resolutions, encoders, or connections; use YouTube’s current guidance for the selected profile and confirm the encoder’s output.
  • Protocol: Prefer RTMPS when available. YouTube identifies HLS as an alternative for HDR or codecs not supported by RTMP; HDR is generally not relevant to a plain still image.
  • Network capacity: The server’s available upload bandwidth must exceed the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% headroom; its streaming tips describe allowing for primary stream plus backup stream plus 20%.

Start the stream and check it

  1. Start the encoder on the server.
  2. Wait for the Live Control Room preview and check that the intended image appears, the broadcast is receiving data, and any audio behaves as expected.
  3. Check the stream-health indicators and watch for dropped frames, connection warnings, or unexpected encoder stops.
  4. Run a test period before relying on the setup as a permanent channel stream. Confirm that the encoder process remains running and that the server’s network connection remains stable.

YouTube recommends a reliable network, advance setup, previewing in Live Control Room, and monitoring stream quality. For a continuous stream, that means testing the server and monitoring the encoder and connection rather than assuming a successful initial connection will persist indefinitely.

Keep the server process running

A 24/7 broadcast depends on more than the encoder settings: the server, encoder process, and outbound connection all need to remain available. Configure the server’s normal process supervision or restart behavior for your operating system and encoder, and decide how you will be alerted if the process exits or the stream loses its connection. Exact supervision settings depend on the server environment and are not specified by YouTube’s encoder guidance.

Will YouTube archive the full 24/7 stream?

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that a broadcast running continuously for 24 hours or longer will be archived in full. Do not rely on the automatic archive as the sole recording of an uninterrupted 24/7 stream.

Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely area to check What to do
No preview or no incoming signal in Live Control Room Encoder output, stream URL, or key Confirm the encoder is running and that its destination uses the URL and key for this broadcast. If the key may be compromised, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
SSL or secure-connection error RTMPS connection or port configuration Use the RTMPS URL displayed in Live Control Room. YouTube notes that port 443 may resolve some SSL connection errors if the encoder lets you configure the port.
Unstable stream or dropped frames Upload capacity or network reliability Check the server’s available outbound bandwidth against the total stream bitrate and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Verify that the connection is reliable and monitor stream health.
Image disappears or the encoder stops outputting Image-source behavior or encoder process Check the encoder’s documentation for how to keep a still-image source active, then verify the process remains running during a test period.
Stream connects but the picture or sound is wrong Encoder input and output profile Check that the configured image is the continuing video source, confirm the selected codecs are supported by the encoder, and inspect the preview before relying on the stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the still image is part of an uploaded video, StreamNeo can keep a YouTube stream running from the cloud: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera or from a standalone image source, so a still image would need to be supplied as video content.
