Which Indian Cloud Region Gives the Lowest Latency for a YouTube Livestream?

Mumbai and Delhi are documented Indian cloud options, but neither is an established YouTube ingest latency winner. Here is how to compare the actual route fairly.

There is no evidence-supported universal winner between Mumbai and Delhi for sending a YouTube livestream from an Indian cloud server. The best region is the one that repeatedly delivers a stable connection to the YouTube ingest endpoint assigned in your Live Control Room—not necessarily the nearest city or the region with the lowest generic ping.

What “lowest latency” means for a YouTube livestream

A ping or round-trip-time (RTT) result measures a particular network path. It does not by itself tell you how long viewers wait for your livestream. YouTube defines stream latency as the delay between an encoder or camera capturing an event and that event appearing on the stream. The full delay therefore includes more than the cloud VM’s network trip to YouTube ingest. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance also notes that lower-latency settings can involve more buffering for viewers.

For a cloud encoder, the useful regional question is: which candidate VM can send your chosen video settings to the current YouTube ingest endpoint reliably, with acceptable ingest behavior and viewer delay? YouTube does not publish a Mumbai-versus-Delhi ingest leaderboard or, in its reviewed setup guidance, a way to choose a specific Indian ingest region.

Which Indian regions should you compare?

For Google Cloud, Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2) are documented Indian regions. They are reasonable candidates to test if they suit your cloud setup, but their existence does not establish which has the faster route to YouTube Live. Google’s Live Stream API location guide describes availability and considerations for Google’s managed streaming product; it is not a benchmark of YouTube ingestion from a VM.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Other cloud providers may offer different Indian locations. Compare the regions actually available to you and the workload, rather than assuming a result for one provider applies to another.

How to compare regions fairly

  1. Choose candidate regions. Shortlist locations available from your cloud provider, considering where your source files or other services are hosted as well as operational requirements. Mumbai and Delhi are documented Google Cloud candidates for India.
  2. Use YouTube’s current ingest details. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and obtain the stream URL and key for the test. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains how to enter these in an encoder; its RTMPS instructions say to copy the URL shown in Live Control Room. Do not substitute a guessed endpoint based on a city or a generic ping target.
  3. Hold the test conditions constant. Use the same encoder version, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, protocol, and stream configuration in each region. Keep the test periods comparable and repeat trials at representative times; a single result can reflect temporary network conditions.
  4. Test the actual production protocol. If production will use RTMP or RTMPS, use that protocol in each regional comparison. YouTube says HLS has higher latency because it sends video in segments rather than as a continuous stream like RTMP. Comparing one region on HLS and another on RTMP would confound the regional result.
  5. Monitor more than ping. Record connection stability, YouTube stream-health warnings, dropped frames, ingest behavior, and end-to-end delay. YouTube recommends testing upload speed, testing the stream before an event, and monitoring stream health in its encoder settings guidance.
  6. Make the decision on repeatable results. Choose the region that meets your stability and delay needs across repeated matched trials, while also accounting for cost, availability, resiliency, and proximity to other services.

Why cloud RTT dashboards do not settle the question

Provider latency dashboards can help shortlist locations or investigate networking, but each measures a defined path and set of endpoints. Google Cloud’s latency dashboard reports median RTT between geographic areas and regions containing VMs; Microsoft’s regional statistics describe RTT within the Azure backbone. Neither establishes the route from your particular VM to the YouTube ingest endpoint assigned to your stream. Use such figures as general context, then test the real ingest path.

Protocol can change the viewer delay

Keep protocol fixed when comparing regions, then choose the protocol that fits your production needs. YouTube’s HLS setup guidance explains that HLS has higher latency because it sends video in segments, and that ultra-low-latency mode is disabled for HLS. A regional test made with HLS therefore should not be treated as a direct comparison with an RTMP or RTMPS test.

Interpreting the result

  • Lower public ping, worse YouTube stream: the ping test targeted a different endpoint or path; favor the repeated ingest and stream-health results.
  • One region wins only in one trial: repeat the test at other representative times before deciding; a one-off result does not establish a dependable regional advantage.
  • Both regions are stable: weigh their repeatable delay alongside cost, availability, resiliency, and proximity to the rest of your workload.
  • Neither region is stable at your chosen settings: check upload capacity and encoder configuration, then test again with the same settings across candidates. YouTube recommends an upload speed test and stream-health monitoring.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a prerecorded YouTube channel that stays live around the clock, StreamNeo avoids keeping a home computer or connection running. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It is for uploaded video, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
