Start with the legal supplier named on the cloud account and invoice, then verify the account’s GSTIN and address. GST treatment can differ by contracting entity: Google Cloud’s India guidance describes different rules for Google Asia Pacific and Google Cloud India Private Limited. Even after tax is clear, two cloud bills are comparable only if the streaming workload—runtime, resolution, outputs and delivery—is comparable too.
Why the invoice entity matters before the GST rate
A data-center region does not tell you which company is supplying the service or how the invoice will be taxed. Check the legal entity in the billing account and on the invoice itself. Google Cloud says India tax treatment depends on whether the customer is contracted with Google Asia Pacific or Google Cloud India Private Limited. AWS’s cited guidance concerns cloud-service sales by AWS India to customers in India; if your account is arranged differently, verify its invoice and tax settings rather than assuming the same treatment.
AWS India
AWS says GST applies to AWS India cloud-service sales to customers in India. Its guidance describes 9% CGST plus 9% SGST for customers in Delhi, and 18% IGST for customers in other states. AWS advises registered business customers to enter their GSTIN and registered address in tax settings so it can issue the appropriate invoice. Google Cloud
Google Cloud documents two cases for India customers: services supplied by Google Asia Pacific are charged at 0% GST when a valid GSTIN is provided and 18% when one is not; services sold by Google Cloud India Private Limited to customers with India billing addresses are subject to 18%, regardless of GSTIN status. Google’s guidance also says migrated India accounts billed by Google Cloud India Private Limited are billed in INR, and its migration FAQ says customers without a Tax ID are charged GST based on billing-address state. Confirm your account’s supplier, tax profile and actual invoice; do not infer them from the selected cloud region. Google Cloud India tax documentation and billing migration information.

Normalize the stream before comparing totals
A GST percentage is only one line in the comparison. For each provider, write down the assumptions behind the pre-tax estimate and make them match as closely as possible.

How to compare the invoices step by step
- Identify the supplier. Check the billing account’s legal entity and the supplier named on a recent invoice. For Google Cloud, determine specifically whether the account is contracted with Google Asia Pacific or Google Cloud India Private Limited.
- Check tax details. Verify the GSTIN, its validity, registered address, billing address and tax information saved in the provider account. Do not assume a GSTIN automatically results in the same treatment across different suppliers.
- Define one workload. Record the monthly active hours, input and output resolution, codec, additional distribution outputs, bitrate or traffic assumptions, expected viewers and delivery region. Use the same assumptions for each estimate.
- Include every service in the architecture. For AWS, account for the components you will actually use—not just an encoder. AWS describes live workflows that can include encoding, packaging or origination, and CDN distribution. For Google Live Stream API, include active runtime, output resolution and distribution outputs.
- Separate the numbers. Compare the pre-tax recurring estimate, GST line, invoice currency and final billed amount as distinct values. Use current provider calculators for estimates, then reconcile them against actual invoices and account tax settings.
- Retain tax invoices if registered. Ask a tax professional whether your business can claim input tax credit in its circumstances. AWS explicitly makes eligibility conditional on local law and circumstances.
Why a single 24/7 monthly price is not established
The provider documentation does not support one universal monthly total for “24/7 YouTube streaming.” Runtime alone is not enough: output configuration, delivery traffic, region, active-but-idle time and the account’s tax arrangement all affect what appears on a bill.

Google Live Stream API billing
Google says Live Stream API charges are based on active channel runtime and configured resolutions and outputs. Distribution streams are additional outputs. Active duration has a ten-minute minimum and is then rounded up to the nearest minute; there is no free usage tier. A channel may remain billable as active even without an input stream, so include idle active time and stop channels or distributions that are not needed, subject to your operational needs. AWS example costs are not India monthly quotes
AWS publishes an example of $69.74 per hour for a one-hour workflow with 1,000 viewers. That illustration assumes US-East-1, specified bitrate and cache assumptions, and highest-bitrate consumption; it is not an India price or a direct estimate of a YouTube-origin stream. Keep the YouTube workflow and cloud bill in scope
This comparison is about the cost and tax documentation of services used to keep a YouTube live stream running. If you use a cloud service that encodes or distributes video, include those actual services and traffic in the estimate; do not assume every reference architecture or sample viewer-delivery cost applies to your channel. Separately, make sure the content you stream is authorized for YouTube use and complies with YouTube’s copyright and monetization policies.
