Sony says its upgraded PSSR improves fine-detail clarity and image stability in supported games, but results vary by title. Standard PS5 owners should also consider Sony’s newly announced QSSR support before deciding that AI upscaling requires a Pro.
What PSSR does on PS5 Pro
PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) is Sony’s AI image-upscaling technology for PS5 Pro. It analyzes game frames as it upscales them, aiming to reconstruct a clearer image than the game’s original rendered resolution alone would provide. Sony describes its March 2026 PSSR upgrade as improving image stability, fine-detail clarity, and consistency across supported titles, while giving developers more flexibility to balance visual fidelity and performance. Those are Sony’s claims, not a guarantee of the same visible change in every game. Sony’s announcement of upgraded PSSR
On supported games, the PS5 Pro system setting called “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” can enable the upgraded version, including in some titles originally built for earlier PSSR. Sony says to turn the option off if it causes unexpected visual effects. Treat it as a title-by-title option to try, not a universal image-quality switch. PS5 Pro features and compatibility details
Check whether your games benefit
The most important check is your own play list, not the total number of games associated with PSSR. Sony’s US PS5 Pro page currently lists these games with enhanced PSSR: Resident Evil Requiem, SILENT HILL f, SILENT HILL 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Control, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Nioh 3, Rise of the Ronin, Crimson Desert, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Cyberpunk 2077. This is a changing list: games and system software can be updated, so check Sony’s live page and each game’s current graphics options before buying. Sony’s current PS5 Pro game list

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Sony reported on February 27, 2026, that original PSSR had been used to boost the effective resolution of over 50 PS5 Pro titles. That figure is Sony’s count as of that announcement; it does not mean all those games use the newer PSSR version or benefit equally. Sony’s February 2026 PSSR announcement

| Games you play | Compare their current standard-PS5 graphics options and whether they are among games Sony says will support QSSR. | Look for PSSR support in your regular games; support and results vary by title. |

Sony announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) for standard PS5 on October 1, 2026. It named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first games using it, with patches offering it as an additional graphics option. Sony describes QSSR as a separate, lower performance tier of AI upscaling for standard PS5 and says PSSR remains the higher-end solution on Pro. The announcement does not establish that QSSR matches PSSR or that every standard-PS5 game will support it. Sony’s QSSR announcement

Check your display and the actual upgrade cost
Sony’s 4K and up-to-120fps language is conditional: it applies to compatible games and a compatible 4K TV, and the available result depends on the title. Check the display you already own and the modes your regular games offer. If you would need to buy a new screen to get the improvement you want, include that expense in your decision rather than treating it as part of PSSR’s value.
There is no established universal price threshold for a worthwhile upgrade. Work out the net cost in your market after any trade-in or resale, then compare it with how many supported games you play and how much you value their visual or performance options. No independent, like-for-like performance benchmark establishes a measured uplift across the listed games, so a blanket numeric promise would be misleading.

A practical before-you-buy checklist
- List your most-played games. Check Sony’s current PS5 Pro page and the games’ own update notes for PSSR support, and check Sony’s QSSR announcement for standard-PS5 support.
- Identify what you want to improve. Decide whether you care most about fine detail, image stability, frame rate, or graphics options; support for one feature does not promise the same outcome in every title.
- Check your screen. Confirm its resolution and refresh capabilities, then verify which modes your particular games support.
- Calculate your net upgrade cost. Include trade-in or resale only at amounts you can actually obtain; there is no source-backed universal “worth it” price.
- Count other Pro benefits separately. For example, decide whether the listed 2TB storage matters to you without treating it as an image-quality gain.
Who is most likely to find the Pro worthwhile for PSSR?
The case is strongest if several games you regularly play support PSSR, your display can show the improvements you care about, and the resulting graphics or performance choices justify your net cost. It is weaker if your games lack support, your current screen or console already meets your needs, or you are upgrading on the assumption that every game will look sharper. For standard PS5 owners, QSSR adds another reason to check what supported games can offer before paying for a Pro.
