If that folder is missing, check the actual Windows Documents location: Windows user-profile folders can be redirected or customized, as described in Steamworks’ Steam Cloud documentation.
How do I transfer my Octopath Traveler save from Steam to GOG?
You can prepare a safe test, but you cannot yet follow a verified copy-to-GOG path. GOG’s official product page lists the game as “Coming soon”; RPG Site reported an October 8, 2026 release date. Neither establishes the GOG save folder or compatibility with Steam’s .sav files: GOG’s OCTOPATH TRAVELER page and RPG Site’s release report.

- Close the Steam game. Let Steam finish any pending cloud synchronization before handling local files.
- Make a separate backup. Copy the complete Steam
SaveGamesfolder, includingSystemData.savand everySaveData*.savfile. Leave the original untouched. - After GOG release, create its own save folder. Install and launch the GOG build once; if needed, create a disposable new save, then exit normally. This is a cautious way to prompt the game to create files, not a confirmed Octopath-specific requirement.
- Find the folder the GOG game actually created. Do not assume it uses Steam’s path or copy a path from another game.
- Preserve the new GOG files, then test with copies. Retain a backup of the GOG-created files and place copies of the Steam save files in the destination only for a controlled test.
- Check the result before syncing or replacing anything else. Start the GOG game and confirm the expected party and progress. If it does not recognize the save, restore the GOG backup and avoid repeatedly overwriting files.
Will the GOG version recognize my Steam save?
That remains unresolved before release. The available product information does not document GOG’s local save path or state that its build accepts Steam saves. Copying files is only a test procedure; it is not evidence that the two builds use compatible save formats.

There is no evidence that Steam Cloud and GOG Galaxy synchronize saves directly with each other. GOG lists cloud saves as a feature and says Galaxy is optional, but that describes GOG’s own service, not interoperability with Steam. GOG’s FAQ says: “GOG Galaxy is used for synchronization of achievements and cloud saves, but its usage is totally optional.” See GOG’s product FAQ.

Steam Cloud synchronizes matching changed files before and after game sessions. Steam warns that ignoring a cloud conflict can create a mismatch between cloud and local files and risk losing progress; its cloud settings can be disabled for an individual game. - If either launcher presents a conflict, pause and compare timestamps and available copies before choosing.
- Do not treat cloud sync as a backup or as a cross-store migration method.
- If you disable Steam Cloud for the game while testing, re-enable it only after you know which save is the correct one.
