Capcom says the game supports cross-play, but available official information does not confirm cross-progression. Because the Switch 2 version is not yet released, its actual image quality and performance remain unverified.

These are published targets and output resolutions, not independent performance tests. Capcom says rendering resolution varies with system load, the game upscales when render resolution falls below output resolution, and frame rate may drop in high-load situations. How do the performance modes compare?
Switch 2: 30 fps targets in each listed mode
Capcom’s published Switch 2 information lists a 30 fps target for TV resolution mode, TV frame-rate mode and handheld mode. TV players can choose between prioritizing resolution and frame rate, but both modes carry the same published frame-rate target. Handheld mode has its own listed output resolution. PS5 and Xbox Series X: three target options
Capcom lists Prioritize Resolution, Balanced and Prioritize Frame Rate modes for PS5 and Xbox Series X, with targets of 30, 40 and 60 fps. The available chart lists 3840×2160 output across modes; it does not show that the game renders natively at that resolution in every mode. There is not enough evidence to rank the Switch 2 image against the PS5 or Xbox image before the Switch 2 version is available. Output resolution alone is not a measure of final image quality, and the published targets do not show how consistently a console holds its frame rate in demanding scenes.
What changes for portable and local play?
Switch 2 is the only one of these versions with handheld play as well as TV mode. Nintendo also confirms local multiplayer for the Switch 2 version. Capcom describes Monster Hunter Wilds as cross-play enabled, allowing players on supported platforms to play together. Cross-play is about playing with people on other platforms; it does not mean that progress or purchases move between systems. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions launched on February 28, 2025. Capcom lists the Switch 2 edition for December 4, 2026, and also lists PC among the game’s platforms. Capcom says the paid expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is planned for Switch 2 in 2027. Detailed update and version parity across platforms is not established by those release announcements. Nintendo Japan’s preorder information confirms download and package editions for Switch 2, as well as a console bundle in Japan. It also says a prologue demo is planned before launch, without stating a date in that announcement. Nintendo Japan’s listing
Nintendo Singapore separately announced a bundle for December 4, 2026. It includes a Switch 2 console set, a full-game download, a three-month individual Nintendo Switch Online membership, and the Hunter Layered Armor: Guild Knight and Talisman: Hope Charm purchase bonuses. Nintendo says downloading the game requires internet access and a Nintendo Account set to Singapore. Which version should you choose?
- Choose Switch 2 if handheld play, local multiplayer, or playing on Nintendo’s system matters more to you than having a published 40 or 60 fps target.
- Choose PS5 or Xbox Series X if you want a choice of published 30, 40 and 60 fps targets. For the PS5 Balanced target of 40 fps, Capcom specifies a compatible 120 Hz display.
- Wait for post-release comparisons if your decision depends on actual image quality, frame-rate stability or performance in demanding scenes. The Switch 2 version’s published targets cannot answer those questions in advance.
