To start Echoes of Sekigahara, complete four early Ghost of Yōtei story missions, then accept the bounty Nagato the Handsome from Kojiro at Yōtei’s Shadow Inn. The Ashoro story proceeds through a sequence of missions ending with Dream’s End. You do not need to finish the entire base-game campaign first; optional activities and trophies can be swept up separately.
How to unlock Echoes of Sekigahara
Player Atlas’s October 2026 start guide lists four prerequisite main-story missions. Once they are complete, the bounty that opens the expansion becomes available:
- Complete The Old Inn.
- Complete The Way of Dual Katana.
- Complete The Tale of the Oni.
- Complete The Kitsune’s Fate.
- Travel to Yōtei’s Shadow Inn and speak with bounty broker Kojiro.
- Accept Nagato the Handsome from the bounty board, then follow its marked route through the marshlands into Ashoro Foothills.
If Nagato is not available, confirm that all four prerequisite quests are complete. Do not ride straight to Ashoro before accepting the bounty: the region is described as closed until the objective is active. The October 2, 2026 guide says the full base-game campaign is not required.
Echoes of Sekigahara story mission walkthrough
The following route follows a post-launch Ashoro walkthrough. Its entries are practical story beats and named objectives, not a developer-published exhaustive mission catalog.

Opening route: follow the wounded wolf
- Follow the wolf’s trail and clear the Viper camp.
- When prompted, use the nearby Massive Weapon against the armored Viper.
- Free the wolf, then go with Nagato toward Ashoro Springs.
Ashoro Springs
Clear the Viper occupation and speak with Kihei. The town’s bounty board points toward the Vipers and the missing funds belonging to the Snake.
Another Man’s Treasure
Follow the bounty board’s leads. During Umakichi the Bear Slayer, release the captured bear before defeating Umakichi, then question him. During Bunzaemon the Butcher, finish the confrontation and follow the sequence that returns food to Ashoro Springs. Speak to the Hot Spring Attendant when prompted; this leads into a Sekigahara memory.

Snake’s Estate
Follow the food-cart tracks through the swamp. At the blocked gate, locate and break through the rotted wood. Inside, search for clues; this objective is an investigation rather than a standard camp-clear.
Ichizo the Toad
Find and defeat Ichizo at the estate, take the key, and use it on the Snake’s locked house. The clues there direct Atsu and Nagato toward Mount Akan.

A Past and Present Battle
- Follow the cart tracks into Mount Akan. If the route is blocked, stay within the mission area and use the alternate path.
- Free Nagato from the Black Guard and search the bodies for the note.
- Meet Nagato near Hunter’s Rest Shrine.
A Buried Promise
Collect the marked food and feed the Black Buck, then follow Nagato along the alternate climb and through the next memory sequence. If you want the Free Bird trophy, free the Golden Bird during this section rather than leaving after its captors are defeated.
Dream’s End
- Meet Nagato and take the bow he leaves on the ridge.
- Clear the Viper camp, interrogate a survivor, and inspect the cart evidence.
- Follow the caravan and take the high route to the retaining wall. Clear its defenders, then pull the supporting logs with Nagato before the caravan passes.
- Protect the surviving gold on the pack horses, escape with Nagato, and defeat Kinsor the Ugly.
- Return to Ashoro Springs.
The post-launch walkthrough identifies Dream’s End as the close of the main Ashoro story. Optional activities remain available afterward.

Player Atlas’s October 2026 trophy guide lists 12 expansion trophies. These objectives are separate from simply completing the main Ashoro story.

When to do optional objectives
Player Atlas recommends completing enemy- and trap-dependent trophy conditions before clearing every hostile position. Remaining camps can provide archers, ordinary enemies, and intact traps. After Dream’s End, sweep Ashoro for anything you missed:

A community player report said they had completed all available bounties before earning the story trophy but could not establish whether that was required. Treat a full bounty sweep as optional unless your trophy progress indicates otherwise. The exact complete catalog of side missions, bounties, and activities has not been established by the available sources.
Which edition includes the expansion?
PlayStation’s September 3, 2026 announcement says the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition includes Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted. For existing owners, PlayStation announced a Complete Edition Upgrade that includes both add-ons. The announcement gave October 1, 2026 as the access date, with the patch and content available October 2 in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Check your region and edition before buying: that dated announcement does not establish current retailer inventory.
PlayStation describes the expansion as spanning two periods in Atsu’s life: her time on the mainland during the Battle of Sekigahara and the present day.
