Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →On a standard PS5, choose Performance for a 60 fps target and more responsive combat, Quality for a sharper image at a 30 fps target, or Ray Tracing for ray-traced lighting at a 30 fps target. If your display supports 120 Hz, the 40 fps Balanced modes offer another trade-off. The October 1, 2026 update also added QSSR, an optional image-reconstruction setting worth comparing on your own display.
Which graphics mode should you choose?
Start with the feature you care about most. These are recommendations for the standard PS5; PS5 Pro has additional options and should not be treated as having identical mode choices.
| Mode | Best fit | Reported target and image trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Performance | Smoother motion and responsive action | Targets 60 fps; reported dynamic resolution is closer to 1080p and varies by scene. |
| Quality | More image detail on a 60 Hz display | Targets 30 fps; reported dynamic resolution is slightly below 4K and varies by scene. |
| Ray Tracing | Ray-traced lighting | Targets 30 fps; reported resolution is around 1440p and varies by scene. |
| Balanced | A middle ground on a 120 Hz display | Targets 40 fps; requires a 120 Hz display. |
| Ray Tracing Balanced | Ray-traced lighting with a 40 fps target | Targets 40 fps; requires a 120 Hz display. |
The approximate resolution and frame-rate figures above are secondary reporting of Digital Foundry measurements, not fixed native-resolution guarantees. Dynamic resolution can change with the scene. Sucker Punch’s patch 1.100 notes, dated November 24, 2025, confirm that Balanced mode requires a 120 Hz display; the 40 fps target is reported in the technical measurements.
How should your display affect the choice?
If your display is 60 Hz
Performance is the practical starting point if smooth motion and responsive combat matter most. Choose Quality if you prefer the additional image detail and are comfortable with a 30 fps target. A 60 Hz display does not prevent you from using these main graphics options.

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If your display supports 120 Hz
Try Balanced for a 40 fps target that sits between the 30 fps Quality target and 60 fps Performance target. Choose Ray Tracing Balanced instead if ray-traced lighting matters more to you than Performance’s higher target. The game requires a 120 Hz display for these Balanced modes.
If you use VRR
VRR requires a compatible display and must also be enabled on the console. On PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and enable VRR. In-game VRR choices will not take effect unless the system setting is enabled. Technical reporting specifies an HDMI 2.1 VRR-capable TV or monitor for this use case. An uncapped VRR option is not a dedicated 120 fps mode: its rate can vary, and without compatible VRR a capped option is preferable to avoid judder.

What does QSSR change?
On October 1, 2026, Sony announced QSSR as an additional graphics option for Ghost of Yōtei on PS5. Sony says it improves image detail and stability. Sucker Punch Lead Rendering Engineer Jasmin Patry described QSSR as resolving fine detail in characters and environments with improved temporal stability; that is the developer’s stated benefit, rather than independent comparative testing. Read the PlayStation Blog announcement.
Early reporting of Digital Foundry analysis found little performance difference in the game’s 60 fps dynamic-resolution modes, with small dips noted in an uncapped VRR scenario. Because that observation is preliminary, compare QSSR on and off in the mode you actually play, paying particular attention to fine detail and motion on your display.

What if you own a PS5 Pro?
Secondary technical coverage reports extra Pro modes and resolution improvements, including a Ray Tracing Pro mode with a 60 fps target. These are summaries of Digital Foundry measurements, not official fixed-output specifications. The standard-PS5 recommendations and approximate resolution figures above should not be assumed to describe Pro output.

They do not determine graphics mode, but several options can make play easier to read or control. PlayStation’s Ghost of Yōtei accessibility guide documents subtitle backdrops, speaker names, color and large-text options, enhanced wind visibility, off-screen detection indicators, enhanced combat cues, aim assist, projectile indicators, and simplified button holds, rapid presses, forging and campfire controls. A persistent center dot is also available; PlayStation specifically notes it may help reduce motion sickness. Choose these settings for your needs rather than as image-quality presets.
