Use Facebook’s built-in Download your information tool to save a copy of your photos, posts, and other available account information. Find it in Accounts Center under Your information and permissions; if it isn’t there, check Facebook settings because the settings path can vary by account, device, or region.
Download a copy of your Facebook information

Open Facebook and go to Settings. Look for Accounts Center.

In Accounts Center, open Your information and permissions.

Select Download your information. If you don’t see it in Accounts Center, look for the option in Facebook settings. Meta notes that some settings may not yet be available in Accounts Center for every user. See Facebook’s information-download help page.

Request a copy of all available categories, or select the categories and date ranges that fit your needs. For example, if you only need older photos, narrow the request rather than exporting everything.

Follow the prompts to submit your request, then use Facebook’s provided download option when it is available. The exact screens may differ by account, device, or region.

Meta’s current help page confirms category and date-range selection, but does not establish every current file-format, media-quality, processing-time, or archive-expiration choice. Check the options shown in your account rather than relying on a specific format or delivery timetable.

Both options are in the account-information area, but they have different destinations. Meta describes them on its information-download help page.

Download your information before deleting Facebook
If you plan to permanently delete your account, request and save the information you want first. Meta warns that after deletion you can’t retrieve what you added to the account. Read Facebook’s permanent-deletion guidance before proceeding.
Keep the downloaded archive somewhere you control. If you want an additional offline copy, you can store it on your own external drive; Meta does not require a particular device or storage brand.
What Facebook’s older access tools mean
Meta’s January 12, 2021 announcement described eight historical categories in Access Your Information and the addition of search; it is dated background, not a definitive current list of export categories. In a February 4, 2025 engineering article, Meta said account-access features were consolidated within Accounts Center in 2023. For a current export, follow the categories and settings Facebook actually presents in your account.
