Sony recommends switching the optional setting off if it causes unexpected visual effects, but says results vary by game, so this is a diagnostic step—not a guaranteed fix.
First, confirm you have the right setting
PSSR is a PS5 Pro feature. The setting relevant here is Enhance PSSR Image Quality, which applies to supported PS5 Pro games that use PSSR. Do not confuse it with the separate Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games compatibility setting.
Sony introduced broad support for upgraded PSSR in a system software update announced March 16, 2026. The enhanced version can be enabled for existing supported games through an optional system setting, and Sony cautions that results may vary by title. Sony’s announcement says: “If it results in any unexpected visual effects, you can turn it off at any time.”
Turn off enhanced PSSR and compare the same scene
- On the PS5 Pro, open Settings.
- Go to Screen and Video and find Enhance PSSR Image Quality.
- Turn the setting off.
- Reopen the affected game and compare the same scene, including the same camera movement and fine-detail areas where you noticed blur, flicker, or ghosting.
If the artifact goes away with the setting off and returns when it is on, the symptom appears linked to enhanced PSSR in that particular game and scene. It does not establish that all PSSR games have the same issue, or that the console or display is faulty.

Why does PSSR look blurry or produce flicker or ghosting?
The official guidance does not identify a single cause for blur, flicker, or ghosting in an individual game. Enhanced PSSR behavior and support are title-dependent, so an effect may be specific to a game or how that title implements the feature. Sony does not publish a universal PSSR-artifact diagnosis or repair.
Compare another supported PSSR game only as a way to check whether the symptom is isolated to one title. If only one game is affected, check its update notes and contact its publisher for title-specific guidance; do not assume that the result applies to every supported game.

Check the game update and support status
Install any available update for the affected game, then review its publisher’s patch notes or PlayStation’s current supported-title information. Enhanced PSSR rollout involves supported titles and game updates, so support and results can differ by game.
PlayStation Canada’s PS5 Pro page lists games supporting Enhance PSSR Image Quality, including Resident Evil Requiem, Silent Hill f, Silent Hill 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Control, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Nioh 3, Rise of the Ronin, Crimson Desert, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Cyberpunk 2077. The supported list can change; check the page for current information rather than treating it as a permanent roster.

Rule out a general HDMI or display problem
If the visual issue remains with enhanced PSSR off, use PlayStation’s standard picture checks. These steps address general PS5 display or signal problems; they are not a PSSR-specific fix.
- Connect the PS5 Pro directly to the TV or display, bypassing a receiver, HDMI switch, or capture device.
- Confirm the display is set to the HDMI input used by the console.
- Check for and install display firmware updates.
- Try another HDMI port on the display.
- Try another HDMI cable if one is available. PlayStation recommends this as a general picture check, not as a remedy for PSSR reconstruction blur.

When to contact support
If the issue persists across the setting comparison and display checks, contact PlayStation Support or the affected game’s publisher. Include the game title, whether its updates are installed, the scene and visual symptom, and whether turning off Enhance PSSR Image Quality changes it. Sony’s support material does not offer a dedicated PSSR-artifact diagnostic; avoid jumping to a factory reset or hardware repair solely because an image changes after enabling the feature.
