To add a Humble Bundle game to Steam, first confirm the purchase offers a Steam key. Then redeem that key in Steam using Games > Activate a Product on Steam and follow the prompts. A key meant for another platform or service will not add the game to your Steam library.
Check that your Humble purchase includes a Steam key
Sign in to the Humble account that made or received the purchase and open its purchase or library entry. Check the listed platform and redemption details before continuing: not every Humble item should be assumed to include a Steam key, and the available information does not establish a single set of current Humble page controls for revealing one.
If the item explicitly offers a Steam key, reveal or copy it using the controls shown on that page. Check that the key is intended for Steam rather than another launcher or service.
Activate the key in Steam
- Open the Steam client and sign in to the account where you want the game added.
- Choose Games > Activate a Product on Steam. Steam’s retail-key help also documents + Add a Game > Activate a Product on Steam as an alternative route. Both open the product activation flow. Steam’s activation instructions and retail CD-key guidance describe these options.
- Follow the onscreen instructions and enter the Humble key when Steam asks for it.
- Complete the prompts. Steam says you can also register a product key through a browser; see its activation instructions for that option.
If Steam rejects the key
- Check the copy: Copy the key again from Humble and make sure you entered it without missing or extra characters.
- Check the platform: Confirm the key is specifically for Steam. A key intended for a different client or service cannot be redeemed through Steam’s product activation flow.
- Check the account: The game may already be registered to the Steam account you are using.
- Use the right support route: Steam says invalid or duplicate keys issued by Steam should be referred to the game developer or publisher. That guidance does not establish the correct contact for every key delivered through Humble; if the key came from a Humble purchase, consult the purchase’s support information for the appropriate next step. Steam’s guidance on activation keys distinguishes keys used with third-party clients or services.
A Steam product key is different from a Steam Wallet code. Use product activation for a game key, not the Wallet-code redemption form.
