Those symptoms point to different causes. Check that you are on the version of Quordle you intend to play; Merriam-Webster’s official game and independent Quordle sites can have different word lists and behavior.
Is Quordle failing to load, ignoring input, or rejecting a word?
Look at what happens after you open the game and try a guess:
- Blank page or loading screen: the page or its scripts may not be loading.
- No letters appear: the game may not have keyboard focus, or input may not be reaching it.
- An invalid-word message: the game is responding, but it may not accept that word in the current version or mode.
Separating these cases helps you avoid changing settings—or risking saved progress—when the problem is simply focus or a different accepted-word list.
How to fix a blank or stuck Quordle page
1. Reload and check other websites
Reload the Quordle page, then open another website. If other sites also fail, investigate your internet connection. If they load normally, the issue may be specific to the game, browser, or device. A failed comparison does not confirm that Quordle is down.

2. Compare browsers, devices, or networks
Try the same game in another browser. If possible, test another device or network as well. When Quordle fails in only one browser, focus on that browser’s settings or extensions. If it fails across browsers while other websites work, the cause may be on the game’s side, but this check alone cannot establish an outage.
Google Chrome Help lists device settings, device software, network problems, browser issues such as cookies or extensions, and website issues among possible causes of pages that will not load. 3. Check JavaScript and extensions
The surfaced Quordle app page at beta.quordle.com displays: “You need to enable JavaScript to run this app.” If JavaScript is disabled, the game may not run. A browser extension or script blocker may also interfere with page code.
- Check that JavaScript is enabled in your browser.
- Temporarily disable extensions that block scripts or page content, then reload Quordle.
- If the page works, re-enable extensions one at a time to identify whether one is interfering.
What to do when Quordle will not accept typing
Click or tap inside the game area before entering letters. The game may not have keyboard focus if you clicked elsewhere on the page. On a phone or tablet, try the on-screen keyboard. If input still does not register, reload the page and test again.

Why Quordle rejects a word that seems valid
A word can be real English and still be absent from the accepted list for a particular Quordle site or mode. The independent site quordle.uk says its word list may differ from the list used by Merriam-Webster’s official Quordle. Check the help or rules for the exact site and mode you are playing rather than assuming every version accepts the same words.
Protect your game and stats while troubleshooting
Start with low-risk checks: reload the page, focus the game, test another browser, and review JavaScript or extensions. Do not begin by clearing cookies or all site data. The quordle.uk troubleshooting guide warns that doing so may erase locally stored stats or an in-progress game on that independent site. Storage behavior for every Quordle version is not established, so avoid clearing data unless you understand the risk for your specific game.

When to contact the game’s support team
If the checks do not narrow down the cause, send the operator a concise report with:
- The exact URL of the game you are using.
- Your device and browser.
- What appears on screen and what happens when you type or submit a guess.
- Whether the game works in another browser or on another network, if you tested those.
- Approximately when the problem began.
Do not treat a loading problem as a confirmed outage unless the operator reports one. The available information does not establish a live outage status or a support route that applies to every Quordle version.
