For 007 First Light on PC, start by updating the game, Windows, and your graphics driver, then repair the game files and disable overlays. For persistently low FPS, lower resolution before reducing demanding graphics settings; for loading or area-entry stutter, check the SSD installation, available disk space, and DirectX Shader Cache. The right fix depends on whether you have consistently low FPS, loading hitches, delayed input, or a repeatable crash.
Check your PC against the official requirements
IO Interactive Player Support’s requirements article, updated September 15, 2026, lists these PC specifications. Both tiers require Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, 16 GB of RAM, 80 GB of available storage, and an SSD.

Meeting the minimum tier does not guarantee a particular frame rate; the requirements article does not specify an FPS target. IOI advises players near minimum specifications to begin at 1080p with Low settings. Check the Steam or Epic store page for final requirements for your edition.
Try the first-line fixes for low FPS or instability
These are IOI Player Support’s published troubleshooting steps, not a guarantee that any one step will fix every PC. Apply them in order, restarting when prompted, and check whether the symptom changes before moving on.

- Restart the PC.
- Install available Windows updates, then restart.
- Update the graphics driver for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU, then restart.
- Verify or repair the game files in the Steam, Epic Games, or Xbox app library.
- Disable overlays and recording tools, including Steam Overlay, Discord overlay, Xbox Game Bar, and GPU vendor overlays or capture features.
- If FPS is still low, lower the resolution first. Then reduce shadows, reflections, volumetrics, and view distance.
- Close resource-heavy background applications while playing.
On a laptop, connect the charger and set Windows power mode to Best performance. If the problem began after an update, note that timing: a patch-specific issue may need a game update rather than more aggressive changes to Windows or hardware.
Fix stutter during loading or when entering an area
IOI requires an SSD, but that does not mean storage is the cause of every hitch. For pauses while loading or streaming into a location, check the installation drive and shader cache:
- Confirm 007 First Light is installed on an SSD.
- Check that the installation drive has free space.
- Open Windows Disk Cleanup, select the system drive, choose DirectX Shader Cache, and run the cleanup.
- Restart the PC and check whether the same loading or area-entry hitch still occurs.
If stutter instead happens when turning the camera, during combat, or throughout play, note the situation separately; a loading-related storage check does not establish the cause of those other symptoms.

Adjust settings for consistently low FPS or texture pop-in
Lower demanding settings in a useful order
Reduce resolution first, then adjust shadows, reflections, volumetrics, and view distance. This makes it easier to see whether lowering the rendering workload improves frame rate. Close background applications as well, particularly if they are using substantial CPU or GPU resources.

IOI says heavy hitching together with texture pop-in can indicate a VRAM limit. Try reducing resolution and texture-heavy settings before concluding that memory or another component needs an upgrade. The support guidance does not prescribe buying additional system RAM.
Address delayed or floaty input without applying a blanket setting
For delayed input, IOI suggests trying V-Sync or an FPS cap set slightly below your monitor’s refresh rate. If overlays or recording tools are enabled, disable them and compare how input feels. These suggestions are specific to input latency; do not assume that turning V-Sync off is the right fix for every performance problem.

Check for heat or instability when performance degrades over time
If performance drops after 10–30 minutes, check CPU and GPU temperatures and whether the hardware is throttling. IOI also recommends removing GPU overclocks and disabling RAM XMP or EXPO temporarily as a stability test. If a crash occurs after a longer session, check cooling and airflow and test with stock clocks. Restore settings only after you have identified whether they contribute to the issue.
Handle startup failures and crashes
For a black screen or failure to launch
Try the first-line steps above, especially restarting, updating Windows and the GPU driver, repairing game files, and disabling overlays. If the game still will not start, IOI’s later troubleshooting options include checking permissions and security software, removing custom launch options or injector conflicts, and performing a clean boot to identify conflicting startup software. Reinstalling is another later step, not the first thing to try.

For freezes or crashes during play
Repair the game files, update the GPU driver, disable overlays, and test without overclocks. If crashes happen during gameplay, lower demanding settings and check temperatures. IOI’s advanced guidance also includes using system-managed Windows virtual memory, checking Windows Event Viewer for an error around the time of the crash, and performing a clean GPU-driver reinstall. Consider a BIOS update only if you are comfortable following your motherboard manufacturer’s instructions.

Use settings for the current Path Tracing build
IOI’s version 1.2.2 guidance, dated September 25, 2026, applies to the Path Tracing workload and named RTX cards; it is not a universal preset for every GPU. Update the game and graphics driver, then use Options → Graphics → Restore to defaults as a starting point. Depending on your display and preference, IOI says to consider V-Sync Off.

The FPS figures are IO Interactive Player Support’s expectations in its September 25, 2026 version 1.2.2 guidance, not independent benchmark results; the RTX 5090 figure is specifically tied to 6x DLSS Frame Generation. IOI says 2x DLSS Frame Generation with Super Resolution set to Auto should deliver consistently above 60 FPS across the game. These are vendor-published expectations, not a promise for every mission, system, or settings combination.
For the named cards, IOI recommends NVIDIA DLSS with Super Resolution set to Auto and offers DLSS Multi Frame Generation from 2X through 6X, or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, if desired. Path Tracing High adds shading and reflection detail and ray bounces but is resource-intensive; IOI describes Medium as the more balanced choice except for its RTX 5090 recommendation.

Check whether a recent patch addresses your specific issue
Version 1.2.2 (September 25, 2026) followed IOI’s Path Tracing update and a previous hotfix for some GPU hangs. Its notes list targeted improvements: better Path Tracing performance in the opening drive, hotel, and car chase; fixes for specific 5–10 FPS drops in two RTX 5070 scenes; and a fix for heavy stuttering when starting online Escalations with Path Tracing enabled. These fixes do not establish that unrelated crashes or low FPS are resolved.
Version 1.2.1 (September 17, 2026) acknowledged performance reports after the Path Tracing release and said IOI was working with NVIDIA to investigate. That update also fixed several Path Tracing crashes and added AMD FSR upscaling: FSR 4.1 is selected on supported Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 cards (RDNA 3/4), while other cards use FSR 3.1. Earlier, version 1.1.1 fixed a black screen followed by a client crash on some PCs and a rare crash after entering Advanced Training in Malta and pausing.
Give Player Support details that help isolate the problem
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, contact IOI Player Support through its PC troubleshooting or contact route. Include details that identify the failure and make it reproducible:

- The local date and time of the failure, including your timezone, plus the exact error text or code and the stage where it occurs.
- Your CPU, GPU, RAM, and Windows version, along with a DxDiag report.
- For a performance issue: resolution and graphics preset, where the stutter occurs (such as loading, combat, or a cutscene), whether the game is installed on an SSD, and the drive’s available space.
- The troubleshooting steps you have already tried.
