For Black Ops 7, Activision confirms that PC players have a built-in benchmark and multiple graphics and upscaling options, but publishes no FPS cost for individual settings (official PC announcement).
How to find the settings that help your PC
Call of Duty releases differ, and the right adjustments depend on your hardware, resolution, and whether the game is limited by the GPU or CPU. Treat the settings below as candidates to test, not a guaranteed “best settings” preset.
- Choose a repeatable test. Use the in-game benchmark if your release has one, or replay the same gameplay scene. Black Ops 7’s official PC announcement confirms a built-in PC Benchmark Tool; availability and features may differ in other releases (Activision’s Black Ops 7 PC announcement).
- Record a baseline. Note your current settings and the result before changing anything. Compare average FPS and, if available, frame time or 1% lows. These measurements can help reveal whether a change improves consistency as well as average speed.
- Change one setting, then repeat the test. Keep resolution, scene, and other settings steady. Record the new result and retain the change only if it helps meet your target without an unacceptable image-quality cost.
- Check the result in actual play. A benchmark offers a controlled comparison; gameplay can still differ by map, action, and other conditions. If the benefit is unclear, repeat the test rather than stacking more changes.
Activision confirms Black Ops 7 has a benchmark, but does not publish measured FPS gains for lowering specific options. Your own before-and-after results are the useful evidence for your system.
Which graphics options should you test first?
If your tests indicate a GPU limit, try reducing demanding lighting, shadow, reflection, volumetric, and post-processing effects one at a time. These are practical starting points, not an official Call of Duty ranking: the sources do not establish which option costs the most performance in every release or on every GPU.

Compare each change on two axes: did your repeatable test improve, and is the visual tradeoff acceptable? In a competitive game, also check whether reduced effects make important details harder to see. Restore an option if its performance benefit is negligible or its visual cost is too high.
Test resolution and upscaling separately
If the game is GPU-limited at your chosen resolution, compare the available upscaling modes and render-resolution options. Black Ops 7’s announcement confirms support for multiple display resolutions and upscaling technologies, but it does not identify one mode as best for every graphics card (Activision’s Black Ops 7 PC announcement). Change one option at a time so you can see whether the performance gain is worth the change in image quality.

Lower texture detail only when it fits the problem
Consider reducing local texture quality if you have evidence of memory pressure or problematic asset behavior. Texture quality and texture streaming are separate controls: changing a streaming mode is not the same as lowering locally selected texture detail.
Activision describes On-Demand High-Quality Streaming as a quality-and-bandwidth setting. Its Optimized option delivers high-fidelity content with increased bandwidth use, while Minimal reduces graphical quality and bandwidth use. The guidance does not promise an FPS increase from Minimal (Activision’s content-management guidance).

Check whether graphics settings are the real cause
Lowering GPU-heavy image effects may do little if the CPU is the limiting factor. Do not diagnose the bottleneck from a GPU model alone: compare benchmark behavior and gameplay on your own system. Also check the system requirements for the exact Call of Duty release you play. Activision publishes release-specific requirements, and its Black Ops 7 support hub links to current PC requirements and performance help (Black Ops 7 support). Requirements tiers indicate supported hardware categories, not guaranteed FPS.

A low but steady frame-rate ceiling is different from intermittent stutter or trouble loading assets. Lowering graphics settings may not address the latter.

For Warzone specifically, Activision says shader preloading is important and that leaving the Main Menu interrupts the process, which can lead to performance issues. The same troubleshooting page recommends verifying game files through Steam (Activision’s Warzone troubleshooting guidance). Follow the current support instructions for your release; this Warzone advice should not automatically be assumed to apply to every Call of Duty game. These steps are troubleshooting measures, not a promise of a higher stable FPS ceiling.
