There is no verified Modern Warfare 4 network-settings preset yet. Activision’s official materials available on October 3, 2026 confirm the game is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026, but do not publish final-release values or a network-settings walkthrough. Until MW4-specific guidance is available, the most defensible steps are to check service status, test Ethernet if Wi-Fi is unstable, and run your platform’s connection diagnostics.
What network settings should you use in Modern Warfare 4?
As of October 3, 2026, Activision has not published verified final-game recommendations for MW4 router settings, DNS, NAT, QoS, or in-game network options. The official materials confirm beta activity and the scheduled release date, not a final settings guide. See Activision’s MW4 beta information and release information.
That means there are no evidence-backed MW4 values to copy into your router or console. Avoid treating generic DNS changes, port forwarding, DMZ, or a particular QoS configuration as a universal fix. Begin with checks that can distinguish an Activision or platform outage from a problem on your home connection.
How to troubleshoot a connection that feels unstable
- Check service status first. Look at Call of Duty server status and your platform’s system alerts. Activision’s connection troubleshooting guide for the earlier Modern Warfare notes that outages or maintenance can cause connection problems. It is general legacy guidance, not an MW4-specific guide.
- Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet. If you are playing over Wi-Fi, connect the platform directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and compare stability in similar play conditions. Activision describes Wi-Fi reliability and bandwidth as variable and recommends a wired connection for online play. Ethernet can improve consistency, but it cannot guarantee a fix for an ISP, route, or game-server problem.
- Run your platform’s connection test. Use the current built-in network diagnostics for your console or PC. Activision’s older support article gives PlayStation 4 and Xbox One instructions; current menus may differ, so use the platform’s up-to-date support directions rather than assuming those paths match your device.
- Separate game-specific symptoms from broader connection trouble. If the platform test looks healthy but MW4 still lags, note any in-game ping or packet-loss readings if the final game exposes them. Check whether other online games have the same issue, and compare again at another time. MW4’s final telemetry labels and menus have not been confirmed in the available official materials.
- Escalate persistent wired problems. If latency or instability continues over Ethernet across services, contact your ISP. Activision identifies ISP quality and geographic distance from game servers as factors that affect latency.
- Change router features only with a clear reason. Consider QoS only if your router documentation explains its behavior and household congestion is a plausible cause. Activision’s older Black Ops 4 lag guidance mentions QoS, but that does not establish an MW4 preset. Do not apply port forwarding or DMZ instructions as a blanket recommendation.
What ping can—and cannot—tell you
Ping, or latency, is the time data takes to travel between locations, measured in milliseconds. A lower, steadier reading generally indicates a more responsive network path, but the number does not describe every source of delay in a match.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Activision’s matchmaking explanation says the system balances connection quality with time to find a match; it is not a player control that forces the closest server. Activision’s 2024 technical paper uses 200 milliseconds as an example of latency that would make for a poor Call of Duty experience. Treat that as an illustrative example, not a universal cutoff or a published MW4 maximum.
Local changes can help with Wi-Fi weakness or congestion in your home, but they cannot move a game server or directly change game simulation and server/client timing. Activision’s matchmaking explainer puts the limitation plainly: “The Call of Duty netcode, which we’ve discussed in the past, works to reduce the effect of latency, but cannot completely eliminate it.” This is a general Call of Duty statement, not a measurement of MW4 performance.

What older Modern Warfare network information can tell you
A 2019 Modern Warfare Xbox One guide described a Network section with near-real-time ping and packet-loss readings, geographic region, and external and internal IP addresses. It advised players to hide the region and IP details when streaming, capturing screenshots, or sharing video. This is legacy Xbox One information only; do not assume MW4 retains the same interface or fields.

Once MW4’s final options are documented, compare real choices using measurements rather than assumed “best” values. Track whether a change affects local-link stability or latency, whether packet loss appears, and whether the result holds during busy household periods. Record platform diagnostics alongside any in-game readings the final version actually provides. Do not rank DNS providers, routers, VPNs, or port configurations without platform-specific evidence.
