Calculate it as $80 × (1 + the applicable tax rate): at a hypothetical 8% rate, the total is $86.40; at a hypothetical 10% rate, it is $88. Those examples are arithmetic, not tax rates for any particular place. A platform fee is not automatically an extra charge added to your checkout total.
How to calculate the total
Start with the price shown before tax and apply the rate used for your purchase:
Total = $80 × (1 + tax rate)
For example, an 8% rate means $80 × 1.08 = $86.40. A 10% rate means $80 × 1.10 = $88. The examples assume $80 is the pre-tax price; they do not identify the rate that applies to your address.
Why the exact total varies
The title does not specify a country, state, store, or whether $80 is already tax-inclusive, so there is no single correct final price. Some storefronts add applicable tax to the listed price, while others show tax-inclusive prices in some jurisdictions. The tax treatment depends on local rules and the store’s checkout policy.

For example, PlayStation’s U.S. terms say that listed prices do not include sales tax and that applicable tax is calculated and added when a transaction is completed. The terms also recognize jurisdictions that require tax-inclusive prices. This is a U.S.-specific statement, not a rule for every market or storefront: PlayStation Network Terms of Service (March 2025, section 8.14).
Steam’s tax guidance says prices include VAT where Steam collects it, while sales tax is added to the Steam price in applicable U.S. jurisdictions. Check the tax shown for your purchase rather than assuming the listed price is either always before or always after tax: Steamworks Taxes FAQ.

Do platform fees get added to the buyer’s bill?
Not automatically. A platform’s commercial fee arrangements are separate from the amount charged to a buyer at checkout. The cited platform documentation does not establish a universal, separate buyer-facing surcharge called a platform fee, so do not add a generic fee to $80 on that assumption. Use the cart or transaction summary to identify any additional line item before confirming payment.
Valve’s Steam Subscriber Agreement addresses tax collection where required by law and the terms of Steam purchases; it does not provide a universal platform-fee amount to add to a buyer’s game price.
