When can you play Gears of War: E-Day?
Early access began worldwide on October 1, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC). The worldwide launch is October 6 at the same time, according to The Coalition’s Xbox Wire announcement. As of October 3, early access is limited to players who qualify through the Premium Edition or Premium Upgrade. Xbox says those options provide up to five days of early access; Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members can start on October 6.
Which platforms and access route should you choose?
The game is available on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. On PC, choose between the Xbox/Microsoft Store route and Steam. Use the route that fits the access you want:
- Xbox Series X|S: Get the game through the Xbox Store or install it from your console library.
- Xbox app/Microsoft Store on PC: Choose this if you want the Xbox ecosystem’s Play Anywhere entitlement and shared progression with Xbox Series X|S, as described on the Xbox product page.
- Steam on PC: Buy and install the Steam version through Steam. Treat it as a separate PC storefront; a Steam purchase is not an Xbox console copy.
- Game Pass: Xbox lists the game in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch on October 6. Subscribers seeking early access need the Premium Upgrade, rather than relying on the standard launch subscription entitlement.
Before purchasing, check the entitlement displayed by your selected storefront. Xbox’s Play Anywhere wording applies to Xbox console and PC access in the Xbox ecosystem; Steam is listed separately. Xbox Wire also names cloud gaming through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW, but availability depends on region and each provider’s current terms. Check the relevant service page for your location.

Can Xbox and PC players use the same purchase and progression?
Xbox Play Anywhere supports play across Xbox Series X|S and PC with shared progression and achievements for the Xbox ecosystem. That is the reason to favor the Xbox/Microsoft Store version if you want one entitlement across those devices. Do not assume a Steam purchase grants the Xbox version: Steam is a distinct storefront, and the Xbox Play Anywhere description does not extend that entitlement to it.
How do multiplayer and cross-platform invitations work?
Xbox describes a solo campaign, two-player split-screen co-op on console, and online campaign co-op for up to four players, as well as Horde Siege PvE and Versus PvP on its product page. The beta FAQ’s 4v4 Versus detail describes the beta and should not be treated as a full specification of every launch mode.

Steam players can play without linking an Xbox account. To send cross-platform squad invitations, however, the official Gears of War FAQ says an Xbox account must be linked. In game, open the social pane and select “Link Account.” Multiplayer at launch requires Game Pass Essential or higher, according to that FAQ; this is a multiplayer requirement, separate from the Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass access to the game itself.

Xbox Wire published final PC specifications on September 17, 2026, and noted an updated specifications image on September 28. The current specifications image is the place to verify CPU, GPU, memory, and storage requirements; do not rely on a component list copied from an earlier page or an unrelated Gears game. The August beta FAQ advised using an SSD and current graphics drivers, and said HDDs were unsupported for the beta because they could lead to loading, asset, stuttering, and crash problems. That is beta-specific guidance, not a substitute for the final launch specification.
