For PC players building a larger Fallout 4 mod setup, Nexus Mods is usually the better place to discover and manage mods. Its dedicated catalog works with Vortex, which offers profiles, load-order sorting and conflict-management tools. Bethesda Creations is the more direct choice if you want to browse and download through the game, and it is the practical route for console players. Your platform and preferred installation workflow matter more than a universal winner.

Choose Nexus Mods if you play on PC and want more control
Nexus is a strong fit when you want to search a dedicated Fallout 4 catalog, compare individual listings and use a separate manager to organize a substantial setup. Vortex links with the site and includes profiles, automated load-order sorting and conflict-management features. Those tools can make it easier to keep different setups separate and spot conflicts, but they do not guarantee that a particular combination of mods will work.
Nexus promotes one-click automated collections as a Premium feature. That is an optional service feature, not a requirement for using Nexus or Vortex. Whether a collection is right for you still depends on its listed requirements and compatibility with your game version.
Choose Bethesda Creations for the in-game route or console access

Read each Creation’s description for dependencies and load-order requirements. Bethesda advises: “Make sure to read description of the Creation to verify if it has any load order requirements.” If the order needs changing, use the Creations menu in the game. Bethesda documents Xbox account linking through Fallout 4’s in-game Mods menu; after linking, players can add or remove mods from their in-game library. Follow the Xbox account-linking instructions if needed. Bethesda also has PlayStation account guidance, but platform-specific steps should be checked in its support center rather than assumed to match Xbox.

Check the exact mod before choosing a catalog
The available evidence describes how each service works; it does not establish that individual mods appear on both services. If you have a particular mod in mind, search for that item and verify its platform before settling on a workflow. A mod listed for PC should not be assumed to work on a console, or vice versa.
- Game version: Confirm the mod or Creation supports the version of Fallout 4 installed on your platform.
- Dependencies: Check whether it requires other mods or specific downloadable content.
- Load order: Follow the listing’s instructions, especially when a mod must load before or after another item.
- Platform and edition: Match the listing to your device and game edition; Bethesda’s edition guidance lists supported purchase paths and platforms.
Why updates make compatibility checks important
Fallout 4’s Creations system and platform behavior can change with updates. Bethesda’s patch notes record changes in 2026, including console Creations storage changes on May 27 and an August 18 update that included a higher BA2 archive limit and Creation Kit changes. These notes are platform- and version-specific; they are not a universal current storage allowance or compatibility guarantee. Check the official patch notes for the relevant game version before relying on older limits or instructions.
