On the original Game Boy Advance versions, no: FireRed and LeafGreen have no ordinary Celebi encounter or in-game quest. The historical legitimate routes depended on an external distribution, including a Japanese Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Disc route. Nintendo has separately announced a Celebi Mystery Gift tied to Pokédex completion in Pokémon HOME for the Switch releases, with HOME support scheduled to begin in October 2026.
Can you catch Celebi during normal FireRed or LeafGreen gameplay?
No. Celebi is not a standard wild encounter or reward for finishing the story, completing the National Pokédex, exploring the Sevii Islands, or trading normally within the game. The original GBA games do not provide an ordinary in-game way to obtain it. FireRed and LeafGreen Pokémon Locations lists Celebi as unavailable through standard play.
That answer concerns the original GBA releases. External distribution methods and Nintendo’s announced Switch-release gift are different from finding Celebi in the GBA games themselves.
What historical routes could provide Celebi?
External event distribution
Historical event distributions could provide Celebi outside ordinary gameplay. They were limited distributions, not a permanent quest or encounter unlocked by story progress. Japanese Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Disc
A more specialized historical route involved the Japanese Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Disc. Its Relic Stone option could award Celebi after the associated Japanese Colosseum save had purified all 48 Shadow Pokémon. Owning the disc alone was not enough: the required Colosseum progress, region-compatible games and equipment, and a compatible transfer arrangement were also necessary. This is a collector-oriented exception, not a hidden FireRed or LeafGreen event. The requirement is specific to the Japanese Bonus Disc and compatible setup; a Colosseum disc from another region does not qualify.

What about the Switch versions?
Nintendo’s official US store listing for the Switch versions says Pokémon HOME support begins in October 2026. It states that completing the Pokédex for the respective game in HOME can earn a special Celebi as a Mystery Gift. Nintendo’s FireRed listing
This is a separate, HOME-conditioned gift announced for the Switch releases—not an ordinary encounter in the original GBA games. The listing gives the start date for HOME support; it does not establish that the gift is already claimable before that support begins.
