Yes, if you want to play the current deckbuilding game and are comfortable with it changing; wait if you want a finished story, more modes, or settled balance. Slay the Spire 2 launched on Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026. It already offers solo play and friends-only online co-op, but Mega Crit says a true ending and other additions are still planned. This is a buy-now-versus-wait recommendation based on the studio’s published plans, not a firsthand review or performance test.
What you get by buying now
Slay the Spire 2 is a roguelike deckbuilder with new and returning characters, plus cards, relics, potions, enemies, events, environments, and mechanics. It can be played solo or online with up to four players. Mega Crit says the game already has more content than the original Slay the Spire had at its Early Access stage; that is the developer’s comparison, not proof that the sequel is complete or directly comparable to the finished original. Co-op is for Steam friends, not public matchmaking
The online co-op mode is friends-only on Steam and has no matchmaking, according to Mega Crit’s FAQ. It suits a group that already knows who they want to play with, but not someone counting on joining random public lobbies.
What is still planned for Early Access
Mega Crit’s Steam Early Access statement lists more gameplay content, a true ending, additional modes, balance improvements, bug fixes, broader hardware compatibility, visual effects, and more languages among the work planned before the full version. The studio says it uses Early Access to gather feedback, try experimental designs, find less common problems, and improve stability and quality of life. Steam’s Slay the Spire 2 page

There is no fixed 1.0 date. Mega Crit says it expects development to take around one to two years, based partly on the longer-than-expected Early Access period for the first game, but frames that as an estimate rather than a release commitment. The studio’s statement says it will stay in Early Access “Until the game feels great!” Mega Crit’s Early Access information on Steam
Updates can change how the game plays
Because balance and content are still evolving, a run or strategy may not feel the same after future updates. In a May 2026 developer newsletter, Mega Crit said beta patches had shifted from weekly to bi-weekly and main-branch changes were also becoming less frequent to give players time to absorb changes and respond. That is a dated update, not a promise about the update schedule in October 2026. Mega Crit’s Steam announcements

Price, platforms, and timing
Mega Crit’s FAQ lists the Early Access price as $24.99 USD and says regional prices vary. Check the live Steam listing for your region rather than assuming that USD figure is your local price. The studio says the price will increase after Early Access, so waiting for a fuller version may mean paying more. Mega Crit’s FAQ · Steam store page
The current Early Access listing is for Steam on PC, macOS, and Linux. Mega Crit says console and mobile versions likely will not arrive until after Early Access; the studio also says the game is Steam Deck compatible. What the published player figures tell you—and what they don’t
In its May 2026 newsletter, Mega Crit reported 240 million runs, 60.5 million wins, and 179.5 million losses as totals current at the time of writing. The studio also reported a 16% win rate at Ascension 0, compared with 9% for Slay the Spire 1, and about 17% at Ascension 10, compared with 3% at Ascension 20 in the original. These are publisher-reported figures, and the difficulty levels in those comparisons do not match. The totals are not current player counts or an independent measure of quality, and the win-rate figures do not predict whether a new player will enjoy the game. Mega Crit’s May 2026 Steam newsletter
