If it has finished, work through game-specific PC compatibility, drivers, file repair, and background-app checks before changing graphics settings. The right fix depends on which Call of Duty release and platform you use; the official steps below are PC-focused.
Let shader preloading finish before judging performance
Shader preloading is part of a game’s first boot. Activision Support says for both Black Ops 6 and Warzone: “Shader Preloading is an important part of the first boot process. Allow this process to complete before attempting to play the game. Navigating out of the Main Menu will cause the preloading to stop and can lead to performance issues.” Keep the game at its main menu until the process completes; leaving the menu can interrupt it.
Once preloading is complete, persistent stutter is not proof that compilation itself is still the cause. Diagnose the specific symptom and release rather than applying a universal graphics preset: Activision’s support guidance and driver recommendations vary by title.
Troubleshoot persistent problems on PC

Confirm the release, platform, and symptom
Identify whether the problem is in Black Ops 6, Warzone, Modern Warfare, or another release, and whether you play on PC or console. The steps below use PC support guidance; do not assume another release has the same menu labels or fixes. Also distinguish rendering stutter or low frame rate from network lag and crashes, since they call for different investigations.

Check the game’s requirements and Windows version
Compare your PC with the requirements for the exact game you are playing. Activision’s Warzone PC troubleshooting page lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 and links to the game’s system requirements; consult that live requirements page for the current hardware details. Requirements for Warzone should not be treated as requirements for every Call of Duty release.

Use the driver recommended for that game and GPU
Follow the current recommendation on the relevant Activision support page for your title and graphics-card vendor. Activision advises updating to its recommended graphics driver for graphical issues; if a newer driver causes trouble, it advises rolling back to the recommended version. Driver versions change, so check the current title-specific page rather than relying on an old version number.

Verify or repair the game files
Use the file verification or repair feature in the launcher where you installed the game. The exact control differs by launcher; this checks whether installation files need repair, but it is not a guaranteed performance fix.

Isolate background-app conflicts
If the problem continues, close background applications that may interfere, then test again. Activision’s Warzone guidance names NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner, and Razer Cortex among applications to disable during troubleshooting. Their presence does not establish that any one of them is the cause on every PC. If closing likely conflicts does not help, a clean boot can help isolate software that starts with Windows.

Escalate with details that identify the failure
If the issue persists, record the game version and launcher, GPU and driver version, CPU, RAM, resolution, graphics settings, and whether you see stutter, low FPS, crashes, or network lag. For crashes, use the official Warzone PC troubleshooting guidance and its crash-report process; for another release, use that game’s support page.
When to change streaming quality—and what it does
Activision’s On-Demand High-Quality Streaming guidance describes a trade-off between visual fidelity and bandwidth: Optimized favors high-fidelity content with increased bandwidth use, while Minimal lowers graphical quality and bandwidth use. If your connection is constrained, testing Minimal may reduce bandwidth demand. The cited guidance does not establish that changing this option raises frame rate or fixes shader-related stutter, so treat it as a streaming-quality adjustment, not a shader remedy.

Do not use old shader timings as a target
Activision’s 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PC troubleshooting article gave average shader-preloading durations for six named PC configurations:
