The game combines weapon assemblies, Legion Arms, and abilities, while later updates changed parts of combat balance and added difficulty and control options. Here’s how to approach those systems without treating old weapon rankings as current advice.
What makes up your combat toolkit?
The official game page describes combat through three broad tools: dynamic weapon combinations, Legion Arms, and abilities. That gives you several ways to shape a character’s approach rather than one prescribed beginner build.
Weapon combinations
Weapon assembly lets you combine weapon components. Think of it as a way to find a setup that suits how you want to fight, not a puzzle with one universally correct answer. The official material confirms the system, but does not provide enough current, comparable weapon statistics to establish a best early-game combination.
An assembly warning added in the Overture launch update can flag certain combinations with ineffective attack types. Treat it as a useful compatibility check, not a promise that every unflagged combination is optimal. The update also added a Weight preview in the Equipment menu, which can help you see the weight impact of a setup before committing to it. These features and their unlock timing may depend on where you are in the game.

Legion Arms and abilities
Legion Arms and abilities are separate parts of the combat toolkit. Consider them alongside your weapon rather than choosing a weapon in isolation. The official game page presents these systems as ways to vary combat, but does not identify a single best Legion Arm or ability for new players.
Choose settings that make combat easier to read
The Overture launch update added three selectable difficulty levels and documented several control and camera options. You can adjust the challenge in Settings → Gameplay → Difficulty; the update says the difficulty can be changed at any time. There is no need to keep a setting that makes learning the combat less enjoyable.

- Dash and Dodge: The update supports separate assignments for these actions. If the default layout feels awkward, check the control settings for separate bindings.
- Auto Lock On When Attacking: This is an optional setting. Try it if you want attacks to acquire a target automatically, or leave it off if you prefer to manage targeting yourself.
- Difficulty: Choose the level that gives you room to learn. The available options are selectable in Settings → Gameplay → Difficulty.
These are preferences, not universal recommendations. A control or camera setting that helps one player may not suit another.
How to think about weapons when balance changes
Be cautious with fixed weapon rankings, especially advice that does not name the game version. In its November 2023 version 1.3.0.0 notes, the developer reported increased damage for some weapons, increased stance breaks for some weapons, and changes to the P-Organ ability Rising Dodge. Those changes show why an old ranking should not automatically be treated as current. They do not establish the present performance of individual beginner weapons.

Use recommendations as starting points, then judge a setup by whether it suits your playstyle. The official sources cited here do not provide verified current damage values, attack-window comparisons, or a definitive early-game weapon ranking, so this guide does not label any one weapon the best.
Make progression adjustments carefully
The Overture launch update introduced P-Organ Recalibration, replacing the former reset feature. It allows individual Quartz to be removed or equipped. Because the feature and other quality-of-life options may depend on in-game unlock conditions, do not assume they are all available at the start of a new playthrough.

Before adjusting a build, check what the game currently allows you to change and consider which part of your setup you want to improve. Recalibration is a way to adjust individual Quartz, not evidence that a particular configuration is required for beginners.

Official update notes dated 5 August 2026 identify version 1.13.1.0 and state that Lies of P is available as a Complete Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 and on the Epic Games Store for Windows. The same notes advise keeping the base game and update data on the same storage device. Check the notes for your platform if you are troubleshooting an installation; platform availability and edition listings are not interchangeable.

If you are buying the game, distinguish a physical console copy from a digital edition. Fireshine’s physical-edition announcement lists PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One physical versions. The US PlayStation Store listing describes a digital Standard Edition that includes PS4 and PS5 digital versions; that is a different product format from a physical disc. Check your region and the current listing before purchase rather than assuming editions have identical contents.

A practical beginner approach
- Set your controls and challenge level. Open Settings → Gameplay → Difficulty to choose a difficulty, and review the separate Dash and Dodge assignments and optional Auto Lock On When Attacking setting.
- Try a weapon setup that fits you. Use weapon assembly to explore combinations, and pay attention to the assembly warning and Weight preview where available.
- Consider the whole toolkit. Think about your weapon, Legion Arm, and abilities together instead of expecting the weapon alone to define your approach.
- Revisit old recommendations skeptically. Check whether advice accounts for later balance updates, including version 1.3.0.0, before treating a ranking as current.
- Use progression options when unlocked. P-Organ Recalibration can adjust individual Quartz, but its availability is tied to progression rather than guaranteed at the beginning.
