Choose the least expensive Game Pass plan that includes the games, platform and benefits you will actually use. For console players who mainly want multiplayer and a smaller catalog, start with Essential. Choose Premium for a larger catalog and cloud play if you can wait for select new Xbox-published games. Ultimate is for players who value select day-one releases and its included memberships. PC Game Pass is the PC-focused option with day-one games and EA Play. Before subscribing, check the games you want in the current catalog and confirm the price and renewal terms at checkout.
Compare the four current U.S. plans
Xbox’s U.S. plan pages currently show Essential, Premium, Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The catalog counts below are the figures displayed when those pages were reviewed in 2026; they are not guarantees that a particular game is included. Xbox says availability can vary by title, region, plan and platform. See the Xbox Game Pass overview and official plan comparison for current details.

Features and counts can change, and a title’s availability depends on your region, plan and platform. Access also requires an active subscription and ends if a game leaves the catalog. Search the live Game Pass catalog for your intended games rather than choosing by headline count alone.
Choose by the way you play
- Start with your platform. Essential, Premium and Ultimate are described for console, PC and supported devices; PC Game Pass is specifically PC-focused. Cloud play requires a supported device and region. Confirm compatibility on the plan comparison page.
- Look up your actual games. Check each title in the current catalog and confirm it is available on your chosen plan and platform. A plan’s total library count does not guarantee access to a specific game.
- Decide how much day-one access matters. Ultimate and PC Game Pass list day-one games, subject to selection and terms. Premium says select new Xbox-published games join within one year; Essential does not include new releases on day one. Xbox’s day-one footnote excludes Call of Duty titles.
- Estimate whether you will use cloud play. The U.S. overview lists 5 hours per month for Essential, 10 for Premium and 15 for Ultimate. PC Game Pass does not include cloud gaming. Device and regional support apply, so check the current terms if streaming is central to your decision.
- Count bundled memberships only when they replace something you would use. Ultimate includes EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics in the reviewed summary; PC Game Pass includes EA Play. If those benefits do not matter to you, they are not a reason by themselves to pay for a higher tier.
- Compare the checkout and renewal cost. Promotions may have eligibility limits, and the recurring subscription renews automatically at the then-current rate unless canceled. Review the renewal amount and billing interval on your account before subscribing.
Is Game Pass Ultimate worth it?
Ultimate is worth considering if you expect to play select day-one releases, use its larger listed catalog or cloud allowance, and get real use from one or more included memberships. If those features do not change what you would play or pay for elsewhere, compare Essential or Premium instead. PC players should also compare PC Game Pass: it includes day-one games and EA Play without bundling cloud gaming.

Do you need Game Pass to play online?
Essential, Premium and Ultimate list online console multiplayer. However, Xbox says free-to-play multiplayer is open to every Xbox player, so do not assume every online game requires a paid plan. Check the requirements for the specific game and mode you want.

- Which platform will you use: console, PC or a supported cloud device?
- Are the specific games you plan to play currently included on that platform and tier?
- Do you need select day-one games, or are you comfortable waiting?
- Will you use the plan’s cloud allowance and bundled memberships?
- Does the checkout price, offer eligibility and renewal amount work for you?
