Loosen its supports, position the display and rear band as the manufacturer directs, then adjust the straps only enough to hold a stable view. Fit differs by model: for example, Apple’s Vision Pro forehead-pressure adjustment is specific to its strap design, while PICO 4 guidance focuses on fine-tuning the top strap.
Refit the headset before changing anything
- Identify your exact headset model. Use its manual or support page; strap positions and adjustment mechanisms are not interchangeable.
- Loosen the rear support before putting the headset on. Position the visor over your eyes and the rear support at the back of your head, then tighten just enough to keep the headset stable. - Engage the top strap. Adjust it so it is snug rather than slack, then check whether the headset stays in place without pressing uncomfortably on your face. HTC describes the VIVE XR head strap as a way to distribute headset weight more evenly; that is manufacturer guidance about its design, not a universal or independently measured pressure rule. - Check the view and stability. Make small adjustments and confirm that the image remains clear and the headset does not slip. Stop tightening once it is secure; a tighter fit is not automatically a better fit.
If the pressure is mainly on your forehead
Look for a pressure-specific instruction for your model before changing strap positions. Apple Support says that on Vision Pro, you can relieve forehead pressure by pulling the lower strap slightly up on the back of your head. That is an instruction for Vision Pro’s design, not a general adjustment for other headsets. Apple Vision Pro fit guidance.
PICO 4 manual material advises fine-tuning the top strap to reduce forehead pressure. Adjust it according to that headset’s manual rather than copying another model’s strap arrangement. PICO 4 headset manual.
If refitting does not relieve the pressure
Notice where the pressure is concentrated. If the facial interface—the part that contacts your face—is the main pressure point, check whether your headset has a compatible alternative interface. If the headset feels poorly supported, a compatible strap may be an option. Verify the exact headset model before buying: cited products are not universal, and a replacement must preserve a stable visual position.

For example, Razer sells a strap and facial interface specifically for Meta/Oculus Quest 2 and describes them as designed to reduce pressure. Do not improvise structural modifications to a strap, mount, or facial interface. Look up an authentic replacement for your exact model or contact its manufacturer for fit support. The cited manufacturer instructions do not establish a universal strap setting or prove that one accessory works best for everyone. If a correctly adjusted headset remains painful or its fit does not match the model’s guidance, seek model-specific support rather than clamping it tighter.
