There is no officially validated graphics preset that improves frame rate while preserving readability on every PC. The reliable approach is to check that your system meets Bethesda’s requirements, use the game’s Benchmark Mode to establish a baseline, then change one graphics setting at a time and judge both performance and clarity in motion.
Check your PC against Bethesda’s requirements first
Bethesda’s 2025 PC specifications set three performance targets. Hardware ray tracing is required even at the minimum tier, along with an NVMe SSD and 100GB of available space. Bethesda’s PC specifications give these example configurations:

These are Bethesda’s published targets, not a guarantee that every system with similar components will hold 60 FPS in every scene. If your GPU falls below the target for your resolution, start by lowering the resolution or overall quality rather than assuming a single detail option will close the gap.
Fix performance problems outside the graphics menu
Bethesda’s PC performance troubleshooting begins with requirements and installation on an NVMe drive, then recommends checking several system-level causes. These steps can address a bottleneck that graphics tweaks will not:

- Confirm your PC meets the required CPU, GPU, memory, and storage specifications, including hardware ray tracing support.
- Install the game on an NVMe SSD. Bethesda specifies NVMe rather than a hard disk; moving from one working NVMe drive to another is not an established way to gain FPS.
- Check that hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is enabled, and close overlays or unnecessary background applications while diagnosing performance.
- Update graphics drivers using the instructions from your GPU maker.
- Make sure the game is using the intended high-performance GPU, especially on a system with more than one graphics adapter.
- Check Windows power settings and verify the game files if performance problems persist.
Use Benchmark Mode to tune settings without guessing
Bethesda added Benchmark Mode in its June 18, 2025 PC update. The benchmark follows a consistent, nearly deterministic route through selected levels and graphs FPS, total frame time, GPU frame time, and CPU frame time. Find it under Extras in the main menu. Bethesda describes the feature in its June 2025 PC update notes.
- Record a baseline. Choose a benchmark level and run it with your current settings. Note average-looking FPS behavior and the frame-time graphs, rather than judging performance from one busy moment.
- Change one thing. First try lowering the overall quality level in the Graphics menu, Bethesda’s general in-game recommendation. Alternatively, change one individual graphics option; avoid changing several at once so you can identify what helped.
- Rerun the same benchmark route. Keep the level and other settings the same, then compare FPS and the CPU, GPU, and total frame-time graphs with your baseline.
- Check readability as well as speed. Inspect moving scenes, enemy silhouettes, effects, and small or high-contrast details. If a change makes targets or scene elements harder to distinguish, restore it and test a different adjustment.
This is a repeatable way to find what works on your own PC, not a published setting-by-setting readability ranking. Bethesda recommends lowering Graphics quality generally but does not identify which individual options preserve clarity best.

Be cautious with path tracing and vendor-specific claims
Path tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction are specialized options, not general performance recommendations. Bethesda’s June 2025 notes limit support to specified NVIDIA GPUs and warn that attempting path tracing on other GPU models does not assure 60 FPS, correct visuals, or stability.
NVIDIA has reported an average 4X performance multiplier at 4K on the Ultra preset using DLSS Super Resolution and Multi Frame Generation on RTX 50 Series hardware. That is NVIDIA’s vendor result for its specified setup, not a general benchmark for other GPU families or configurations. NVIDIA also says a Texture Pool Size of 1536 lets RTX 50 Series 8GB GPUs run Ultra with minimal image-quality impact; that claim should not be generalized to other cards.
