Use a tray to contain a stable cluster, a raceway to guide a longer path, and clips or reusable ties to manage individual cables. Keep frequently swapped connections reachable and leave enough slack for moving equipment.
Map the cables before choosing organizers
Unplugging everything is not necessary. Follow each lead from end to end and note what it connects, where it goes, and whether you change it often. Distinguish power, display, data, audio, and charging cables so you can keep the connections you troubleshoot or swap within reach.
Think of the setup as three route sections:
- Stable equipment area: cables serving devices that remain in place can be grouped and secured together.
- Moving leads: monitor-arm cables and runs connected to a height-adjustable desk need a flexible path that can move freely.
- Desk-to-wall path: guide the cables leaving the desk toward the outlet or other destination without creating a snag point.
This separation keeps moving cables from being trapped in a tight bundle with fixed ones. The Hexcal cable-management guide also recommends planning around stationary and moving parts rather than treating the whole desk as one route.
Measure the desk and moving parts
Before buying or mounting hardware, check the underside of the desk, frame rails, drawers, existing grommets, and the gap between the desk and wall. Confirm that a proposed tray or channel will not interfere with legs, drawers, a monitor-arm clamp, or other hardware.

For any moving route, operate the desk or monitor arm through its full normal range before deciding where to secure cables. Leave enough slack that the leads do not stretch, snag, or pinch at either end of that travel. There is no universal slack measurement in the cited guidance; the right amount depends on the desk, arm, cable path, and range of movement.
Choose an organizer for the route

Its quick-start guide shows screw installation, so confirm that the tabletop or frame can accommodate the specified mounting method before choosing it. It is an example of the tray category, not a claim that it fits every desk.

For a guided linear route, the NexaRig under-desk cable-management guide describes adhesive J-channel as an option. Do not assume adhesive will hold on every finish; check the specific product and surface instructions. Clips and reusable ties can be easier to adjust when you add or replace devices, but they do not replace a suitable route for cables that move with the desk or monitor arm.
Some desks include routing hardware. CORSAIR documents trays and tie-down features for its Platform:6 desk and provides specifications for the Platform:4 desk. These are model-specific examples, not standard features of gaming desks generally; check the current details for the exact desk you own or are considering.

Route and secure cables in a practical order
- Mark the endpoints. Trace each cable from its device to its destination and identify connections you regularly unplug.
- Separate fixed and moving runs. Keep stationary equipment cables together, but leave monitor-arm and adjustable-desk leads on a flexible path of their own.
- Pick the route hardware. Use a tray for a contained stable cluster, a raceway for a linear run, and clips or reusable ties to guide individual cables.
- Check mounting compatibility. Verify clearance and the product’s installation directions before drilling, applying adhesive, or attaching hardware to the desk.
- Secure cables without closing off access. Keep power connections and frequently changed leads reachable; do not tighten bundles so much that cables cannot move where they need to.
- Test movement and access. Move the desk and monitor arm through their full normal ranges, then try a routine device swap. Adjust the route if a cable catches, pulls taut, or becomes hard to reach.
Keep power routing within product instructions
A cable tray organizes wiring; it does not change the ratings or installation requirements of a power strip. Follow the strip and desk manufacturers’ instructions, and do not treat concealed wiring as a reason to ignore them. The NexaRig guide advises plugging a marked surge protector directly into the wall, avoiding chained power strips, and not routing cords under rugs. Those are secondary-source recommendations; consult applicable official electrical-safety guidance for authoritative direction rather than inferring detailed rules from a cable-management article.
