No Windows setting is documented as a universal fix for Rainbow Six Siege crashes. The most useful changes are targeted: assign Siege to the discrete GPU on a multi-GPU Windows 11 PC, test windowed-game behavior only if crashes happen in windowed or borderless mode, and reduce or isolate background software. For a launch or anti-cheat error, use Ubisoft’s specific troubleshooting rather than switching off Windows security.
Start with the current PC requirements
Ubisoft lists 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, and DirectX 12, for the PC version. Its minimum specification includes 8 GB of RAM and GPUs such as the GeForce GTX 1650 4 GB; its recommended 1080p/60 High tier includes 16 GB of RAM and GPUs such as the GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB. The listed 1080p tiers require an SSD and 65 GB of storage. These are published requirements, not a guarantee that a system meeting them will be crash-free. Do not follow old advice to switch the PC game to DirectX 11: Ubisoft says the DX11 executable was removed, leaving DX12. Its older Vulkan article is historical context, not evidence that Vulkan is a current launch option. Ubisoft’s Operation Collision Point notes describe the DX11 removal; its Vulkan technical post is from 2020.
Which Windows settings are worth trying?
Work from the change that matches the symptom. Change one setting at a time, restart Siege, and check whether the same crash recurs; changing several items together makes it harder to identify a cause.

Assign Siege to the high-performance GPU
This is relevant to Windows 11 PCs with more than one GPU, particularly laptops with integrated and discrete graphics. Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, select Siege or use the option to add its game executable, choose Options, select High performance, and save. Restart the game. This sets a GPU preference; it does not prove the GPU selection caused the crash. Microsoft documents the per-app graphics preference in its Windows 11 graphics settings guidance.
Test windowed-game optimizations only for windowed or borderless problems
Microsoft’s Windows 11 windowed-game feature is documented as improving performance for compatible DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 games running windowed or borderless. Siege’s current PC executable is DX12, so that documented benefit does not establish a crash fix for Siege. If crashes occur specifically in windowed or borderless play, you can test the per-app setting under Settings > System > Display > Graphics: select the game, open Options, change the windowed-game optimization setting if shown, save, and restart. Install Windows updates and review optional drivers
Check Windows Update, including optional driver updates, as general PC maintenance. If you need a graphics driver, use Windows Update or the GPU maker’s official channel; no single driver version is established as best for every Siege player. Microsoft’s Windows performance guidance covers updates and driver maintenance.
Reduce competing activity and check resource use
While reproducing a crash, open Task Manager and look for unusually resource-heavy processes. Close apps you are not using, and disable startup apps you do not need. Overlays, recorders, and other desktop programs may have their own background or startup controls: Windows’ per-app background-permission settings do not control desktop apps. Use Best performance only if power limits may be involved
In Windows power settings, Best performance can let the CPU run at higher performance when needed. Microsoft warns that selecting it increases power consumption. On a laptop, that can mean faster battery drain and more heat; it is a conditional power-management test, not a demonstrated Siege crash fix. The option may be useful to investigate on a power-limited system, but do not treat it as a general remedy. See Microsoft’s performance and power guidance.
If the crash is an anti-cheat or launch error
When an error points to Ubisoft Anti-Cheat or a security block, follow Ubisoft’s targeted steps: verify the game files, repair or reinstall Ubisoft Anti-Cheat if it is corrupted, and check whether security software is blocking its executable. Ubisoft’s instructions describe adding the Ubisoft Anti-Cheat executable to Windows Security exclusions. Do this only when troubleshooting that specific block; do not turn off Windows Security globally or add broad folders without evidence. Follow Ubisoft’s Anti-Cheat troubleshooting guidance.

Isolate a software conflict if simpler tests fail
A clean boot starts Windows with essential drivers and startup programs, helping determine whether other background software is interfering with a game. Use it as a temporary diagnostic, not as a permanent operating mode. If Siege works in a clean boot, restore normal startup and re-enable items methodically until the conflict returns; that can help narrow down the cause. Skip unsupported system tweaks
Ubisoft’s BattlEye FAQ cautions against tweaked or custom system files, including DirectX files. Avoid registry recipes, third-party “optimizer” utilities, overclocking, and system-file replacements as generic crash fixes. What these settings can—and cannot—tell you
Windows performance adjustments can reduce competing resource use or help isolate a software conflict; the GPU preference and windowed-mode toggle are most relevant when the hardware or display mode fits. Ubisoft also says Adaptive Render Scaling is enabled by default on PC across graphics quality presets to improve frame-rate stability and performance consistency. That is a graphics behavior, not a promise to prevent crashes. The available official guidance does not quantify how much any Windows setting reduces Siege crash frequency, so treat each change as a reversible diagnostic rather than a guaranteed fix.
