Discovery (WBD). Paramount Skydance had agreed to acquire WBD, but the companies said the deal was expected to close on October 6, subject to customary closing conditions. It had not closed as of October 4.
Who owns DC Studios?
DC Studios sits within Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. WBD placed it in its Streaming & Studios business in a June 2025 announcement about a planned corporate separation. In July 2025, WBD said the planned company that would hold DC Studios was to be called Warner Bros. Those announcements described a plan, not a completed separation; the subsequent acquisition agreement changed the near-term picture.
On September 30, 2026, WBD and Paramount Skydance announced that they expected Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of WBD to close on October 6, subject to customary closing conditions. Because that expected date was still in the future on October 4, WBD—not Paramount Skydance—was DC Studios’ parent on the date covered here. WBD’s June 2025 separation announcement, its July 2025 announcement, and the September 30, 2026 joint update distinguish those planned and pending changes.
Where DC Studios fits in the corporate chain
- DC Studios is the studio responsible for DC’s film and television projects.
- Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. was its parent company as of October 4, 2026.
- Streaming & Studios was the WBD business grouping in which the company placed DC Studios in its 2025 separation plan.
- Paramount Skydance Corporation was the announced acquirer of WBD, but the transaction was still pending on October 4.
Under the announced 2025 plan, DC Studios was to be part of the Warner Bros. company, not Discovery Global. That was a planned post-separation structure; it should not be mistaken for a completed corporate change. The later pending transaction is why the key distinction is between WBD’s ownership on October 4 and Paramount Skydance’s expected future ownership.

Who runs DC Studios?
James Gunn and Peter Safran are DC Studios’ co-chairmen and co-CEOs, according to WBD’s leadership information. They lead the studio; they are not its corporate owners. WBD’s announcement of the planned company and leadership team and the official Peter Safran and James Gunn biographies identify their roles.
Is DC Studios owned by Warner Bros. or Paramount?
On October 4, 2026, the precise answer was Warner Bros. Discovery. Warner Bros. was the planned company for DC Studios under WBD’s 2025 separation plan, while Paramount Skydance was the announced buyer of WBD in a transaction expected to close two days later, subject to conditions. An expected closing date is not proof that a deal has closed; the companies’ September 30 update is the relevant status announcement for that date.
