The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 suits Xbox players who want adjustable stick tension, four paddles, trigger locks, and a longer manufacturer-stated battery maximum. Choose for your platform first: neither is a direct substitute for the other on the rival console.
Compatibility: start with the console you own
Sony positions the DualSense Edge as a PS5 controller. Sony also documents PC use over USB or Bluetooth with PlayStation Accessories on Windows, but some features are limited. Microsoft lists the Elite Series 2 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, as well as Windows PCs and mobile devices.
- PS5: The DualSense Edge is the console-native choice. The Elite Series 2 is not presented by Microsoft as a PS5 controller.
- Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One: The Elite Series 2 is the console-native choice. The DualSense Edge is not presented by Sony as an Xbox controller.
- PC: Both have documented PC connection options. Sony says Edge haptics and adaptive triggers may require USB and a supported game; its PC function buttons can only switch between profiles saved on the controller. Microsoft lists Bluetooth or USB-C for Windows PCs, with wired USB required for some older Windows versions.
See Sony’s DualSense Edge product details and Microsoft’s Elite Series 2 specifications for the documented platform and connection details.
How their controls and signature features differ
DualSense Edge: retain the DualSense feel, then tune it
Edge keeps DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in games that support them. It adds button remapping, adjustable stick sensitivity and dead zones, trigger adjustments, vibration adjustment, and on-controller profile switching. Sony’s launch announcement describes three types of stick caps and two sets of rear buttons.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That makes Edge appealing if you want to customize controls without giving up supported PS5 games’ DualSense effects. Those effects are game-dependent, not guaranteed in every title. Sony’s 2022 announcement and its product page describe these functions.
Elite Series 2: tune stick resistance and add more rear inputs
The Elite Series 2 emphasizes adjustable-tension thumbsticks, shorter hair-trigger locks, a rubberized grip, and app-based button mapping. It includes four paddles and interchangeable stick toppers and D-pads. Microsoft says the controller can store up to three custom profiles plus one default profile.

Its four paddles offer more rear inputs than Edge’s two sets of rear buttons, while adjustable stick tension and trigger locks give the Elite a different kind of physical tuning. The Microsoft feature list is on the official product page.
Replaceable sticks are not the same as interchangeable caps
The DualSense Edge has a replaceable analog-stick module: Sony announced that the module would be sold separately. That is a distinct serviceability option, not just a way to change the shape of the stick cap. Sony’s 2022 announcement listed a launch-era recommended price of $19.99 USD for the module; that historical figure does not establish its current price or availability.

Microsoft documents interchangeable Elite Series 2 thumbstick toppers, D-pads, and paddles. Those swappable components let you change the controller’s setup, but Microsoft’s cited product specifications do not describe a replaceable analog-stick module. If replacing the stick mechanism itself is your priority, the documented distinction favors Edge.
Battery life: manufacturer maximum versus a review test
Microsoft specifies an internal rechargeable battery rated for up to 40 hours per charge and cautions that battery life varies with usage and other factors. “Up to” is a maximum claim, not a promise of typical runtime.

Sony’s product information cited here does not give a numeric Edge battery runtime. TechRadar’s review by Rhys Wood, last updated April 25, 2024, reported just over seven hours in its DualSense Edge battery test and described Elite Series 2 runtime as around 35–40 hours. Those are that publication’s observations, not manufacturer guarantees or the results of a standardized head-to-head test. See TechRadar’s review for its testing context.

Bundle contents matter when comparing value. Microsoft’s Canadian Store listing distinguishes the full Series 2 from Core; the full bundle includes a charging dock, USB-C cable, four paddles, extra thumbsticks, an extra D-pad, an adjustment tool, and a carrying case. Core has a more limited included set. Check the exact local listing before buying, since names, included accessories, price, and stock can vary by region and change over time.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The Microsoft Store page accessed for this comparison was Canadian and displayed CAD $249.99 for the full Series 2 and CAD $184.99 for Core at that time. Those are regional listing prices, not current US or global prices. Sony’s October 18, 2022 announcement gave the DualSense Edge a launch recommended retail price of $199.99 USD, among other regional launch prices; that is historical, not a 2026 price check. Compare current local listings and the included accessories rather than relying on launch-era figures.
Which controller should you buy?
- Choose DualSense Edge if you play on PS5, want supported games’ haptics and adaptive triggers, prefer Sony’s profile and remapping controls, or value a separately replaceable stick module.
- Choose Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 if you play on Xbox, want four paddles, adjustable stick tension and trigger locks, or prefer Microsoft’s stated battery maximum and the full bundle’s extra accessories.
- For PC alone, weigh your games and preferred connection method. Edge’s haptics and adaptive triggers have USB and game-support qualifications, and its function buttons only switch saved profiles on PC. Elite supports Bluetooth or USB-C on Windows, though some older Windows versions require wired USB.
Before ordering either, confirm the exact model, local price, bundle contents, platform compatibility, and current stock on the seller’s regional page. Sony’s launch prices and Microsoft’s Canadian Store figures above are not current universal price quotes.
