If a Karlach or Astarion scene is not appearing in Baldur’s Gate 3, there is no universal fix: the right diagnosis depends on the exact scene, act, quest state, and whether the character is your avatar or a companion. Larian has fixed specific scene-trigger bugs in past updates, but those notes do not prove that every missing scene is a current bug. And if you mean new story content from a later update, Larian said Patch 8 would be the last game patch to introduce it; maintenance fixes may still be released.
Spoiler notice: This article refers to Astarion’s secret and Karlach’s Avernus and ending scenes.
First identify which scene is missing
Before changing settings or repeating actions, pin down the expected scene. “Karlach’s scene” or “Astarion’s camp scene” can refer to different moments with different conditions. Write down the character, act, scene type, and whether the character is the player avatar or a companion. Also note the quest state and what happened immediately before the scene was expected.
- Character and role: Is Karlach or Astarion your avatar, or a companion?
- Scene and act: Is it a romance scene, a camp scene, an ending moment, or another event, and when should it occur?
- Save context: What choices and story events preceded the expected trigger?
- Game setup: What platform and game version are you using, and are mods installed?
What Larian’s past fixes actually covered
Larian’s notes document several specific historical trigger problems. They are useful comparisons, not a diagnosis for an unspecified save.

Did Baldur’s Gate 3 stop adding new scenes?
Yes, as far as announced narrative additions go: on April 15, 2025, Larian said, “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” Read Larian’s Patch 8 announcement. That does not mean updates stopped altogether. Larian’s support listing includes Hotfix 36, dated March 26, 2026; check the live patch and hotfix listing for newer entries. If you expected a newly added Karlach or Astarion story scene after Patch 8, the announcement does not support that expectation.

1. Check the installed version
Compare your game version with Larian’s current official patch and hotfix listing. A historical fix only helps if your installation includes the update that contains it; the live listing may have changed since the Hotfix 36 entry dated March 26, 2026.

2. Isolate mods if you use them
Larian says updates, dependencies, and mod conflicts can affect supported mods. Update the mods and test whether the problem persists with supported mods disabled. For third-party mods, use Larian’s FAQ for the relevant removal steps, including its guidance on install and profile folders; do not casually delete files or edit save data. 3. Report a persistent problem in an unmodded game
If the scene still fails without mods and its expected conditions appear to have been met, submit a report through Larian Support. Include your platform and game version, the scene and act, whether the character is your avatar or a companion, and the story events and steps immediately before the expected trigger. Those details help distinguish a scene-specific issue from a mod conflict or a different story state.

What not to assume
- A past fix is not a current diagnosis. The official notes cover particular scenes and conditions; they do not establish a current count of unresolved Karlach or Astarion trigger bugs.
- More rests are not a universal remedy. The Patch 5 note documents a timing bug under certain conditions, not a general instruction to rest repeatedly.
- A missed scene may not be recoverable. The official guidance cited here does not provide a universal method to restore a scene after a story condition has passed.
