Some Nintendo-themed LEGO sets are marked for retirement in 2026, but that does not mean LEGO and Nintendo are ending their partnership. The change looks more like a shift in Super Mario’s building and play format: LEGO has announced a new minifigure-based range for 2027, after years of interactive Mario figures. Retirement labels and reports apply to selected products, and availability varies by market.
Which Nintendo LEGO sets are retiring in 2026?
LEGO’s indexed US Super Mario catalog has shown multiple products with a “Retiring soon” label, including some Mario Kart and interactive Mario sets. LEGO’s UK coverage of its 2026 Mario Kart products also marks selected sets “Retiring soon.” Those labels describe the relevant regional catalog at the time it is viewed; they are not a complete worldwide retirement list or confirmation that a set is sold out.
Retirement coverage has changed over the course of the year. In a report dated May 17, 2026, Nintendo Life said LEGO’s “last change to buy” page included products from Super Mario, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing. Its examples included Adventures with Interactive LEGO Mario, Party at Toad’s House, Captain Toad’s Camp, Prince Florian & Castle Bowser, Piranha Plant, and Mario Kart – Standard Kart (Nintendo Life, May 17, 2026). A September 2026 Nintendo Life report described additional 2026 retirements, particularly in Animal Crossing and Mario Kart (Nintendo Life, September 2026).
These are dated snapshots, not a guaranteed current roster or a universal last-sale date. To check a specific set, use the LEGO shop for your country and look at that product’s current listing. Stock and labels can change, and national catalogs may differ.

Is LEGO Super Mario ending?
No announcement says the LEGO–Nintendo partnership is ending. LEGO instead announced on August 26, 2026, that a refreshed Super Mario range featuring LEGO minifigures is planned for 2027. The announcement presents the new sets as a creative minifigure roleplay experience, not as an end to the license (The LEGO Group, August 26, 2026).
The distinction matters: individual products can retire while a licensed theme continues with new products. LEGO’s announcement points to a new chapter in the line, but it does not say that every interactive Mario set is being discontinued or establish the future status of each existing product.

What changes with the 2027 Super Mario range?
| What to compare | Earlier interactive Super Mario approach | Announced 2027 range |
|---|---|---|
| Play format | Interactive LEGO Mario figures and building experiences; LEGO says the first launched in 2020. | LEGO minifigures and creative roleplay. |
| Timing and status | Existing products remain subject to individual catalog listings and regional availability. | Announced by LEGO in August 2026 as coming in 2027; exact release dates were not specified in the announcement. |
The format change is why “end of an era” fits the story better than “the end of Nintendo LEGO.” It describes a transition in how Super Mario sets are presented, while the available announcement supports continuity of the theme rather than its cancellation.
A 2026 release shows the line was still adding products
Nintendo’s March 10, 2026 announcement said LEGO Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8 (set 72055) became available on April 1, 2026, through LEGO.com and LEGO Stores. Nintendo listed 2,234 pieces and described a posable Luigi figure, buildable kart, display stand, steering, and rolling features (Nintendo, March 10, 2026). That announcement is evidence of a 2026 product release, not a current stock guarantee or an independent assessment of how the set performs.

How to check whether a set is still available
- Open the LEGO shop for your country and search the set name or number.
- Check the product page for its current label and purchase options; “Retiring soon” does not mean sold out.
- If the set is not listed, treat that as the status of that market’s catalog, not proof of a global final sale date.
Because retirement labels and availability can change, a dated news list is best used to identify products to check—not as a promise that every listed set remains purchasable or that unlisted sets will stay in production.
