The A50 X is the clearer choice if you want Logitech to explicitly document Dolby Atmos for Xbox or PC/Mac, or need video switching between console sources. The Astro A50 (Gen 5) is also a multi-platform headset, but Logitech describes its PLAYSYNC feature as audio switching and its reviewed product page does not specify Dolby Atmos support. That omission does not prove the Gen 5 lacks Atmos.
At a glance: A50 X vs. A50 Gen 5
| Feature | Astro A50 X | Astro A50 (Gen 5) |
|---|---|---|
| Multi-system switching | PLAYSYNC switches audio among supported systems; Logitech describes video switching on console as well. | PLAYSYNC Audio switches audio among three systems; Logitech does not describe console video switching for this model. |
| Xbox audio | Logitech explicitly lists Dolby Atmos spatial 3D surround sound for Xbox Series X|S. | Dolby Atmos support is not specified on the reviewed Logitech product page. |
| PC/Mac audio | USB-C; Logitech lists Dolby Atmos or Windows Sonic. | PC compatibility is listed, but the reviewed page does not specify Atmos. |
| PS5 audio | Logitech names 3D Audio, not Dolby Atmos. | PS5 compatibility is listed; the reviewed page does not specify an audio format. |
| Other listed platforms | Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC/Mac. | Xbox, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. |
| Observed US listing price | $399.99 on Logitech G’s US store, accessed October 4, 2026. | $299.99 on Logitech G’s US store, accessed October 4, 2026. |
Logitech says PLAYSYNC can connect up to three systems at once. The practical distinction is not that only one headset is multi-platform: both are. It is that A50 X adds console video switching to audio switching, while A50 Gen 5 is presented as an audio-switching model. Logitech’s PLAYSYNC overview describes that difference.
Does the Astro A50 X support Dolby Atmos?
Xbox Series X|S
Yes. Logitech explicitly lists Dolby Atmos spatial 3D surround sound for the A50 X when connected to Xbox Series X|S. The product page says the console connects to the headset’s base station through HDMI 2.1 and also lists Game/Chat mixing and 4K 120 Hz passthrough. These are Logitech’s stated specifications, not independent test results. See the A50 X product page.
PC and Mac
For PC or Mac over USB-C, Logitech lists Dolby Atmos or Windows Sonic, along with Game/Chat mixing and G HUB customization. Its wording is specific to the A50 X’s computer connection; do not assume it describes every A50 generation.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
PS5
Logitech lists 3D Audio for PS5, not Dolby Atmos. The A50 X page’s Xbox Atmos statement should not be carried over to PS5. Logitech also lists HDMI 2.1 connectivity and 4K 120 Hz passthrough for the console connection.
Does the Astro A50 Gen 5 have Dolby Atmos?
Logitech’s reviewed A50 Gen 5 product page confirms platform compatibility and PLAYSYNC Audio, but it does not state whether the headset supports Dolby Atmos. That means the official page reviewed here does not establish either support or lack of support. If Atmos compatibility is a deciding requirement, confirm it with Logitech for the exact Gen 5 configuration and platform before buying rather than treating the missing mention as a definitive “no.”

This distinction matters because “Astro A50” covers multiple generations. Logitech labels the current comparison model “ASTRO A50 (Gen 5)” and maintains different software support information for older Gen 3 and Gen 4 models. Check the generation on a listing before applying Gen 5 details to an older headset.
What does PLAYSYNC switch on each headset?
A50 X: audio and console video switching
Logitech says A50 X PLAYSYNC supports audio switching on console and PC, plus video switching on console. It is the model to consider if your setup depends on switching both sound and the console video path through the headset base station. Logitech describes the video feature in its PLAYSYNC overview.

A50 Gen 5: audio switching
Logitech describes PLAYSYNC Audio on A50 Gen 5 as streamlined for audio switching. Its US product listing says the base station connects by USB-C to consoles and PC and can switch between three systems. The reviewed page does not claim console video switching for Gen 5.
Choose based on the devices and switching you actually need. If you only need to move audio among systems, Gen 5’s stated feature may fit; if video switching between consoles is part of the setup, A50 X has the documented capability.

Platform compatibility and connection details
- A50 X: Logitech lists Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC/Mac. Its product page describes HDMI 2.1 console connections and USB-C for PC/Mac.
- A50 Gen 5: Logitech’s US listing names Xbox, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. It describes USB-C connections from consoles and PC to the base station.
Platform compatibility and audio-format support are separate questions. For example, Logitech lists PS5 compatibility for both models, but its A50 X page names PS5 3D Audio rather than Atmos, and its Gen 5 page does not specify Atmos. Don’t infer a particular spatial-audio format merely from a platform appearing in a compatibility list.
Software: use G HUB for these generations
Logitech’s Astro software page lists G HUB and the Logitech G mobile app for both A50 X and A50 Gen 5. It lists Astro Command Center support for earlier products such as A50 Gen 3 and Gen 4; do not assume Command Center is the right software for Gen 5. See Logitech’s Astro Series software page.

Which headset should you choose?
- Choose A50 X if you want Logitech’s explicit Dolby Atmos documentation for Xbox or PC/Mac, or if console video switching is important to your setup.
- Consider A50 Gen 5 if audio switching among systems meets your needs and the listed Switch or Switch 2 compatibility matters to you. Verify Dolby Atmos support directly if it is essential, because the reviewed Logitech page does not settle that point.
- Compare current prices before ordering. On October 4, 2026, Logitech G’s US store listed A50 X at $399.99 and A50 Gen 5 at $299.99, a $100 difference at that time. Store prices can change; these are dated page observations, not a guaranteed current price or permanent MSRP.
The official product pages establish feature claims, not a head-to-head verdict on sound quality, comfort, microphone performance, latency, or battery life. No comparative performance conclusion on those points follows from the specifications above.
