To unlock the Dreaming City, progress through Destiny 2’s New Light questline until destination access is available, then open the Director and select The Dreaming City if its node appears. Bungie lists it as an available destination in the post-Update 9.7.0 game, but its current support guidance does not name the specific New Light step that unlocks it.
Unlock the Dreaming City
- Continue the New Light questline on your character. Bungie’s general guidance is that destination access unlocks through New Light progression; it does not identify a specific Dreaming City mission or step.
- Open the Director and look for The Dreaming City on the destination map.
- Select the destination node when it is available to travel there.
Bungie’s post-Update 9.7.0 support guide lists The Dreaming City as an available destination. The reviewed official instructions do not specify the exact gate or Director label for a new character, so older step-by-step guides should not be treated as current unless verified in-game. Bungie’s Destiny 2 Activities guide describes New Light progression as the general way to unlock destinations.
Do you need the Forsaken Pack to visit?
Bungie’s current pages do not say that owning the Forsaken Pack is required merely to visit the Dreaming City. The pack is relevant if you want its included Forsaken activities: Bungie lists The Shattered Throne dungeon and Last Wish raid as pack content, and says both are accessed through the Dreaming City map. Why the Dreaming City is missing from your Director
- New Light progression is incomplete: continue the introductory questline, then check the Director again. Bungie gives this as general destination guidance but does not publish the exact Dreaming City unlock step.
- You are following an old Forsaken campaign guide: the Forsaken campaign moved into the Destiny Content Vault with Year 5 on February 22, 2022. Directions to start that campaign at the Tangled Shore are historical, not a current unlock route. Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault page records the change.
- You expect the Forsaken Pack to reveal the node: the available official guidance does not identify pack ownership as a fix for a missing destination. Resolve destination access through New Light progression first.
Bungie’s current status guide is dated to Update 9.7.0, which launched June 9, 2026. Bungie says no further live-service content updates are planned after that release, though health and stability hotfixes may still occur. Check the Update 9.7.0 support guide for the listed destinations and status information.
