There is no single global League of Legends academy application or tryout. The route depends on your region, the organizer, the competition tier and the current season: find your official regional competition, check its rules, join a team or use its team-finding channel, build a record in organized play, and follow teams’ current recruitment notices. Competition can help you develop and become visible, but it does not guarantee a tryout, contract or professional career.
What “academy” means in League of Legends esports
“Academy” is not one worldwide admissions program. It can refer to a team’s development roster, a regional competition, or a talent-identification event, and those structures differ by region and season.
For example, Riot and the Korea e-Sports Association described the 2020 LCK Academy Series as a prospect-identification tournament. Its announcement distinguished the trainee-level event from a second division sharing a player pool with the professional league. In North America, Riot’s 2021 amateur ecosystem update described a separate tournament structure alongside Academy, with third-party Tier 2 events and amateur teams as parts of a talent route toward Academy and the LCS. Neither example establishes a current, universal application system.
How to find the right competition in your region
- Start with the current regional esports structure. Use Riot’s current regional esports pages and the official tournament organizer’s site or channels. Confirm the season, competition tier, region served and whether the event is actually active.
- Read the current rulebook and registration notice. Check age, residency, account or rank conditions, team and roster requirements, deadlines, and any exclusions involving professional rosters or discipline. These conditions can change between events and seasons.
- If you do not have a team, look for the organizer’s official team-finding route. Use its current Discord, looking-for-team channel or registration mechanism rather than relying on an old invite link or social post.
- Register through the organizer’s stated process. Confirm who submits the roster, what information is required, and whether each player must register individually as well.
Regional examples show why checking current local instructions matters. Riot’s 2024 NLC guidance described the NLC as the regional league for the Nordics, UK and Ireland, and pointed teamless players to local looking-for-team channels. Riot’s Finnhouse Summer 2025 announcement said its Finnish leagues accepted players of all ranks, required a full team and offered a Discord route to find teammates. That season’s June 2025 signup deadlines have passed; it is an example of one organizer’s approach, not a current open registration or a rule for other leagues.

What eligibility rules can look like
There is no supported global rank threshold or common age rule for academy entry. The 2020 Korean Academy Series announcement listed event-specific age, rank, five-player registration and eligibility exclusions. Those were rules for that competition and season, not current worldwide requirements. Likewise, Finnhouse’s all-ranks wording applied to its 2025 Finnish competition, not to every regional league or team tryout.
Before applying, verify the live rules for your specific opportunity. A team’s roster tryout may set different conditions from an amateur league, and a tournament entry is not necessarily a tryout for a professional team.

How to build a credible competitive profile
Use organized competition to develop and document your play. A concise player profile can make your experience easier for a team or organizer to assess. This is practical advice, not an official Riot application checklist.
- Your region, preferred role and current availability.
- Your champion pool and relevant rank history, with the season or dates clearly identified.
- Teams and organized events you have played in, plus verifiable results where available.
- A reliable contact method and links to relevant public match or tournament records, if you have them.
Focus on consistent team play and dependable communication as well as individual ladder performance. Do not treat any one rank as a universally required ticket: the sources here do not establish a single threshold for all regions or teams.

How to pursue an actual academy tryout
- Follow the team’s current recruitment channels. Look for announcements from the team itself, its official site or its verified social accounts. Check that a notice is current and applies to your region and role.
- Match the notice’s requirements. Confirm residency, age, rank or competitive-record expectations, schedule, roster status and application deadline before sending details.
- Apply exactly as instructed. Provide the information requested and use only the stated contact or application form. Do not assume that joining a league automatically puts you on a team’s tryout list.
- Assess the opportunity before committing. Distinguish a development competition from a team roster tryout, and verify the organizer, expected schedule and terms. No cited official material promises that participation leads to a contract, salary or stable career.
Current team-specific open tryouts, contact details, deadlines, rank expectations and residency requirements vary and are not established by the dated examples above. The team or organizer’s current instructions are the authority for a live opportunity.

Riot’s Hall of Legends 2024 XL Mousepad listing describes fan merchandise and marks it “Retired Limited Edition”; it is not a career prerequisite. A historical OPL rules document about live studio matches cannot establish current amateur or tryout hardware rules. Check the current event’s rules if equipment requirements matter.
