How do I install The Witcher 3 hotfix?
Use the update mechanism for your platform and edition. A PC digital copy should normally be updated through its store launcher; console updates use the console’s built-in update system. The manual PC installer described by CD PROJEKT RED is a legacy Patch 1.01 route for physical copies, not a general installer for current hotfixes.
PC digital copies: update through the launcher
For a digital copy bought through GOG, Steam, or Epic, CD PROJEKT RED directs players to the platform’s built-in update feature. Check the game’s update or download status in the launcher you used to buy it and allow the update to finish before starting the game. The publisher’s guidance is at CD PROJEKT RED’s PC Patch 1.01 support page.
PC physical copies: heed the legacy installer’s limits
CD PROJEKT RED’s manual Patch 1.01 file is intended for physical PC copies. The publisher warns that it may not work with digital editions bought through GOG, Steam, or Epic. Do not treat that older patch file as a sideloading method for an unspecified current hotfix.

Consoles: use the platform’s update mechanism
On PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, use the console’s built-in game update or download controls and check the update status for your installed copy. The official materials cited here provide specific additional guidance for Xbox Series X|S and one Nintendo Switch hotfix, not a single set of console steps that applies to every system.
For Xbox Series X|S, CD PROJEKT RED says Patch 4.0 is required for the game’s dedicated next-gen features and explains that automatic downloads can be enabled in its Xbox automatic-download instructions. That feature-specific guidance does not establish the current version for every Xbox copy. A separate publisher notice says Xbox Patch 5.0 is live; it is a separate notice, not a universal version statement across platforms.

How do I check which version of The Witcher 3 is running?
Check the game’s displayed version in the copy you actually launch, then compare it with the official notice for the same platform and hotfix. Do not assume the latest number in an Xbox notice also describes a PC, PlayStation, or Switch build. The support pages cited here do not establish one current version number for an unspecified platform and hotfix.
On PC, a launcher’s Verify or Repair command checks the installation files; it does not tell you which game version is running. Use the displayed game version for version checking, and use file verification only if the update appears to have left damaged files or the game reports errors.

How do I know if the Witcher 3 Switch hotfix installed if the version number did not change?
For the specific Nintendo Switch hotfix covered by CD PROJEKT RED’s Switch hotfix notice, the displayed game version does not change. The publisher advises checking the date of the last update instead. That date check applies to this notice; it is not a general rule for every Switch update.
The notice identifies two fixes: missing ambient audio for some players and a regional restriction that had been applied incorrectly to the Korean version. If those issues are the reason you are checking for the hotfix, confirm that you are following this specific notice rather than assuming its details apply to another update.

When should I verify or repair PC game files?
If the update seems to have left damaged files or the game produces errors, run the repair option in the launcher that manages your PC copy. CD PROJEKT RED’s PC file-verification instructions give these launcher paths:
- GOG GALAXY: Select the game, open its settings or options menu, and choose Verify/Repair.
- Steam: Open the game’s Properties, select Installed Files, then choose Verify integrity of game files.
- Epic Games Launcher: Open the game’s options menu in your library and choose Verify.
- Battle.net: Open the game’s options menu and choose Scan and Repair.
These operations check or repair files. They do not confirm that a particular hotfix is installed or identify the version currently running.
