To control who can see your PlayStation friends list, change the “Who can see your friends” setting. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy > View and Customise Your Privacy Settings, then find that control and choose the audience you want. The setting is tied to your account, so PlayStation says changes are reflected across your devices.
Change friends-list visibility on PS5
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy.
- Select View and Customise Your Privacy Settings to adjust individual controls.
- Under the information controls, find “Who can see your friends” and choose the audience you want.
PlayStation’s support guide names this control but does not list every available audience value in its indexed text. Use the choices shown on your account; the labels may vary with console software, region, or account state. PlayStation Support’s privacy-settings guide documents the PS5 route.
Use a preset or change only this setting?
PS5 also offers Adjust Privacy Settings by Choosing a Profile, with four presets: Social and Open, Team Player, Friend Focused, and Solo and Focused. A preset changes broader profile and communication privacy. If your goal is specifically to limit friends-list visibility, use the custom-settings route and change “Who can see your friends” instead. PlayStation Support describes both routes.
Change the setting on the web or PS4
On the web
- Open Account Management > Privacy settings.
- Select the relevant feature and edit it.
On PS4
- Open Settings > Account Management > Privacy Settings.
- Select the feature you want to change.
These routes are listed in PlayStation’s privacy-settings guide. Menu labels can differ, so follow the wording visible on your console or account if it does not match exactly.

Will the change apply on your other devices?
Yes. PlayStation Support says: “Privacy settings are tied to your account. If you change the privacy settings for your account, those changes will be reflected on all devices.” This means the change is account-wide rather than a separate friends-list setting for each device. What if you cannot change it?
If the account is a child account, its holder may not be able to change privacy settings independently. A family manager, parent, or guardian can manage a child’s privacy settings and decide which settings the child is allowed to change; the available permissions depend on the parental controls in place. Friends-list visibility is not the same as friend requests
PlayStation notes that privacy settings also affect search results and who can send friend requests. Those controls are related to privacy, but they are not the same as deciding who can see your friends. If you also want to change who can find or contact you, review the relevant controls separately.
