What is the reported Resident Evil crossover?
GamesRadar reported on September 30, 2026, that executive producer Jun Takeuchi described two tracks in the series: numbered entries continue its ongoing drama, while remakes revisit earlier events. The report says the remake line is expected eventually to catch up with the numbered games, and that preparations have been underway since Resident Evil Village. It points to Umbrella and Spencer references, as well as Raccoon City’s return in Resident Evil Requiem, as examples of connective threads. GamesRadar’s report does not identify a particular future game, release date, or format.
GamesRadar’s English rendering of Takeuchi’s comments describes numbered titles as a way to follow the ongoing story and remakes as a way to experience the past. The report notes that translations vary, so its wording should be treated as a translated rendering rather than an official English transcript. It also explicitly does not confirm remakes of Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6.
Which games are worth playing first?
Choose based on the context you want, not a supposed official order. PlayStation recommends the Resident Evil 2 remake as a modernized version of a classic. It also describes Resident Evil 4 as taking place after RE2 and identifies Leon as a Raccoon City survivor. PlayStation’s series guide says the games share narrative connections but tell complete stories in isolation.

Should you wait for Resident Evil Veronica?
Capcom announced Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the 2000 game Resident Evil Code: Veronica, for 2027. Its June 8, 2026 announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, while saying the release date and further details will come later. If you want the original story now, Code: Veronica is an optional way to explore the Claire-and-Chris thread. If you would rather wait for the remake, the announcement establishes its planned year and platforms, but not a specific release date.

How much of the series do you need to know?
You do not need to finish the franchise to follow an individual game. PlayStation says each entry offers a complete story on its own, while recurring characters, organizations, and events reward familiarity with earlier titles. A practical route is RE2 remake alone for a compact refresher, then RE3 and Code: Veronica if their characters or settings interest you. Use each game’s recaps and in-game documents to fill in details rather than treating the full catalog as homework.
