Which controllers work with Xbox Cloud Gaming on Meta Quest?
Xbox’s Xbox on VR Headsets page says: “Use a variety of controllers with your headset including Meta Quest controllers, XBOX Wireless Controller, and XBOX Elite Wireless Controller Series 2.” The Quest setup announcement further specifies Xbox Wireless Controllers with Bluetooth support.

How to choose an Xbox controller for Quest
Check Bluetooth on the exact Xbox Wireless Controller
Do not assume every Xbox Wireless Controller model supports Bluetooth. Xbox’s Quest setup announcement describes pairing with Xbox Wireless Controllers “with Bluetooth support.” Check the exact controller model before buying or troubleshooting wireless pairing. Joe Skrebels, Xbox Wire Editor-in-Chief, used that wording in the December 13, 2023 announcement.

Choose the Elite Series 2 for preference, not a promised advantage
Xbox includes the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 in its Quest controller list, so it is a reasonable premium option. The cited Xbox materials do not show that it reduces latency, improves responsiveness, or that its additional controls or customization features work in the Quest Xbox app. Treat those as unverified for this use unless you confirm them separately.
Keep using Quest controllers if they suit you
Xbox also lists Meta Quest controllers. This lets readers consider the headset controllers as an option without buying a separate gamepad, though Xbox’s page does not specify how controls behave in each game.

How to pair a supported controller and start playing
- On your Meta Quest headset, open the Meta Quest Store and download the Xbox Cloud Gaming app.
- Launch the app and follow its tutorial to pair a supported controller. For an Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox specifies a Bluetooth-capable model.
- Log in with an active Game Pass subscription, then choose an available game.
Xbox says most cloud-playable games in the Quest app require an active Xbox Game Pass subscription, with some exceptions. The available catalog can change and varies by region, plan, and platform; check Xbox’s live cloud gaming catalog and supported regions for current availability.

Xbox’s Quest-specific page recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and 20 Mbps download speed. Its general Xbox Cloud Gaming guidance gives 10 Mbps down as minimum guidance, says some devices may require 20 Mbps for best quality, and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. These are Xbox’s connection recommendations, not guarantees of a particular stream quality or controller response.
