Probably—if your objection is that roguelikes feel too luck-driven, and you enjoy tactical planning. Probably not if you dislike repeated runs, changing builds, or experimenting with combinations. Dicevaders gives you ways to steer its dice, but it is still presented as a roguelike deckbuilder, not a game that removes uncertainty or the genre’s run-based structure.
What you do in Dicevaders
Dicevaders is a single-player strategy game developed by Pengonauts and published by Playstack. Released September 29, 2026, it is described by Steam as a “dice-based roguelike deckbuilder” set in the StarVaders universe. Its loop brings together a turn-based grid, an alien force you build by drafting units, artifacts, dice manipulation, and unit placement for synergies. Steam lists the game for PC; Playstack lists Steam and Nintendo Switch, while the launch announcement also mentions Nintendo Switch 2. Check the relevant store for availability in your region. Does it make randomness less frustrating?
That is the strongest case for a roguelike skeptic. Playstack says you can use Chrono to reroll dice and restock the shop, and “budge” to shift a dice throw toward a desired combination. You also draft units and place them on a grid, where combinations and synergies give you decisions beyond simply accepting a roll.
Those tools let you respond to chance; they do not make the game deterministic. The official descriptions explain the intended controls but do not quantify how much luck remains in a run. If even the possibility of an unwanted roll is a deal-breaker, the dice are a warning sign—not a promise that every outcome can be fixed.

Playstack’s launch page lists 10 commanders, 60+ units, 120 artifacts, and 30+ constellations. Pengonauts’ launch announcement lists six difficulties, 13 additional challenge modes, a true ending, and daily challenges. These are publisher and developer launch claims about available content; they are not independent measures of quality or proof that the variety will suit someone who dislikes roguelikes.
