Which free tactical shooter is closest to Valorant?
It depends on which part of Valorant you want to keep. For classic, objective-driven rounds built around gunplay and weapon discipline, start with Counter-Strike 2. For operator abilities, coordinated roles, and maps that teams can breach and reshape, try Rainbow Six Siege Free Access.

Counter-Strike 2: best for objective-focused gun rounds
CS2 is the more direct fit if “like Valorant” means competitive rounds centered on objectives, careful shooting, and managing weapons and resources. Valve describes it as continuing Counter-Strike’s classic objective-focused gameplay. Its Steam listing is free to play and includes CS Ratings and the updated Premier mode.
It does not have Valorant’s agent abilities, so it is not a substitute for players whose favorite part is choosing a character with a distinct kit. Instead, the appeal is a more straightforward emphasis on gunplay and objective play. Valve describes CS2 as a free upgrade to CS:GO built on Source 2; the listing also highlights upgraded maps and dynamic smoke grenades.

What is free, and what costs extra?
Basic play is free, but Valve sells optional Prime Status. Prime players are matched with other Prime players and are eligible for Prime-exclusive souvenirs, item drops, and weapon cases. Prime is not listed as a requirement for basic play, so check its current terms if Prime-specific matchmaking or benefits matter to you.

Rainbow Six Siege Free Access: best for operator and map tactics
Siege shifts the emphasis from classic gun rounds toward coordinated roles, gadgets, and the way teams attack or defend a map. Ubisoft calls it a tactical team-based shooter, while the Steam listing describes 5v5 attack-versus-defense play involving operators, surveillance, breaching, and destructible environments. That makes it a strong alternative if you want tactical teamwork but are open to a different pace and structure from Valorant.

What Free Access includes
Ubisoft’s Free Access page lists Quick Match, Unranked, and Dual Front, with a selection of operators. The free tier is therefore a way to try several parts of Siege, not full access to its operator roster or competitive playlists.
What remains paid
Ranked playlists, Siege Cup, additional operators, and cosmetics require payment, according to Ubisoft. The company says upgrading to a premium offer adds operators and access to Ranked and Siege Cup as players progress to level 50. If ranked play or a broader choice of operators is essential, check the current offer and progression terms before choosing Siege as your main game.

Platform and launcher note
Ubisoft’s page lists PC and console platform options, but free-mode details and availability can vary by store, platform, and region. Steam’s listing requires Ubisoft Connect as a third-party account and launcher. Check the store for your platform and country for current access details.

If you specifically want the familiar round-based objective format, CS2 is the better match of these two: Valve explicitly describes its gameplay as objective-focused. Siege is a worthwhile free option for tactical team play, but its free modes are built around operator selection, attack and defense, gadgets, and environmental play rather than being a direct stand-in for Valorant’s format.

Which one should you try first?
- Choose CS2 if your priority is competitive, objective-focused gun rounds and you do not need character abilities.
- Choose Siege Free Access if you want to experiment with operators, coordinated attacks and defenses, gadgets, and destructible environments—and are comfortable with free access being limited by mode and operator selection.
Both games are distributed digitally through the cited stores. Check the relevant store listing for your country and platform before downloading.
