Check a game’s current Steam Deck compatibility rating on its Steam Store page or in your Steam Deck Library. Verified means it works well out of the box; Playable means it works but may need adjustments; Unsupported means it is currently nonfunctional; and Unknown means Valve has not reviewed it—not that it has been found incompatible.
Check a game’s Steam Deck rating
- Search the Steam Store for the exact game. Open its Store page and find the Steam Deck compatibility badge and any accompanying details.
- Read the rating and notes. The category gives a quick indication of how the game behaves; the notes explain specific control, display, launcher, or system considerations.
- Filter Store search results when browsing. Use Steam’s Deck Compatibility filter to narrow results to games rated Verified or Playable. Browse Steam Store search results with the Deck Compatibility filter.
- Check games you own in your Library. Find the title in the Steam Deck Library to see its rating. You can also filter Library views by compatibility rating.
Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility program is the official reference for the categories and review criteria. A rating is specific to the game, so check its current Store page or Library entry rather than relying on an old report.
What the four compatibility ratings mean

| Unsupported | The game is currently not functional on Steam Deck. | Do not assume it will work as intended based only on its availability in the Steam Store. |
| Unknown | Valve has not yet checked the game for compatibility. | The status is unreviewed; it does not establish that the game fails to run. |
What Valve checks for a Verified rating
Verified is more than a basic indication that a game launches. Valve assesses four areas:
- Input: Full controller support and appropriate on-screen input icons.
- Display: Support for the Deck’s resolution, legible text, and suitable default settings.
- Seamlessness: No compatibility warnings that disrupt play, and launchers that can be navigated with a controller.
- System support: Compatibility with Proton for the game and its middleware—including anti-cheat software—where Proton is involved.
These criteria help explain why a game can be playable yet still need setup, or why a title that starts may not qualify as Verified.

What to do when a game is Unknown
Unknown means Valve has not reviewed the title, so the rating alone cannot tell you whether it will work. If the answer matters before you install or buy it, look for recent, game-specific reports and check whether they describe the same game updates and setup you expect to use. Treat those reports as evidence from their stated circumstances, not as a guarantee or a replacement for the game’s current official rating.
Do ratings differ between Steam Deck LCD and OLED?
Valve says reviewed games keep the same compatibility ratings on Steam Deck LCD and OLED. The rating therefore does not distinguish between those hardware models.

Why it’s worth checking again
Compatibility review is ongoing: games and updates are released every day, and Deck features can change. Valve says it is working to keep ratings current, but an older rating or third-party report may not reflect the game’s latest state. For a particular title, use the current Store page or Library details as your starting point. Valve describes the review process and its ongoing nature on its compatibility page.
