Riot’s September 22, 2026 patch notes document changes to the spell’s damage, cooldown, hit timing, target selection and range. The description of Blade Waltz as “one of the worst-designed” spells is a critical opinion—not an official Riot ranking.
What Blade Waltz did—and why it drew criticism
Blade Waltz was Fiora’s former ultimate. In a 2023 retrospective, Riftfeed describes the old ability as making Fiora untargetable while she struck a random enemy five times. The outlet argues that opponents had virtually no counterplay during the sequence and that applying on-hit effects across repeated strikes made the spell difficult to balance. Those are Riftfeed’s design criticisms, not a measured consensus among players or a statement from Riot.
The core tension is between a dramatic sequence for Fiora and the response available to her opponents: untargetability can leave enemies with few ways to interact while the strikes land. Riot’s 2026 notes list adjustments to timing and target selection, but do not say those changes were made in response to this criticism. Read Riftfeed’s retrospective.

| Setting | Before | Patch 26.19 |
|---|---|---|
| Damage per hit | 160 / 330 / 500 (+115% bonus AD) | 125 / 255 / 385 (+85% bonus AD) |
| Maximum single-target damage | 320 / 660 / 1000 (+230% bonus AD) | 325 / 663 / 1001 (+221% bonus AD) |
| Cooldown | 130 / 120 / 110 seconds | 150 / 130 / 110 seconds |
| Maximum return range | 1500 | 2500 |
Riot also says damage now begins 0.25 seconds later in the animation, and target prioritization tries to select enemies that have not yet been struck when possible. The notes include a bug fix for a case where Fiora could be locked out of attacking or moving for two seconds if her target immediately became untargetable.
The table distinguishes damage per hit from the listed maximum against one target: the per-hit figures decrease, while the maximum single-target figures change only slightly. The notes provide ability parameters, not match-performance evidence, so they do not establish how the changes affect win rate, pick rate or player experience. See Riot’s Patch 26.19 notes.
