GTA 6 is announced for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of November 19, 2026. Rockstar labels the game “Plays Best On” PS5, but that is the publisher’s positioning—not a published head-to-head performance test. The official information available does not establish which console will deliver better frame rates, resolution, image quality, or loading times. For most players, the practical choice is the compatible console they already own, followed by controller preference, edition and code format.
Are PS5 and Xbox Series X both confirmed for GTA 6?
Yes. Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and gives November 19, 2026 as the release date. Xbox also lists the game for Series X|S. Rockstar describes GTA 6 as “a single player experience”; the reviewed official information does not confirm a multiplayer mode.
See Rockstar’s GTA VI page and its June 24, 2026 preorder announcement for the publisher’s current listing.
Does GTA 6 run better on PS5 or Xbox Series X?
There is no substantiated performance winner in the official information reviewed. Rockstar’s product page says “Plays Best On” PlayStation 5, but it does not publish comparative measurements. That wording should not be read as proof that Xbox has lower resolution, frame rates, or image quality.
#1 Best Overall
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
No official head-to-head figures establish resolution, frame rate, loading times, or other performance differences between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Until comparable, version-specific evidence is available, treat those questions as unresolved rather than buying a second console on the assumption that one version performs better.
Rockstar’s page carries the “Plays Best On” wording at rockstargames.com/VI.

What PS5 features has PlayStation described?
PlayStation’s product page lists DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and high-speed SSD loading. PlayStation also identifies the game as PS5 Pro Enhanced. These are stated PS5 features; the page does not provide a comparison with Xbox or a quantified PS5 Pro advantage over base PS5.
These details may matter if you value the DualSense’s tactile feedback or use PlayStation’s audio features. They do not, by themselves, establish that the entire PS5 version is objectively superior. Feature descriptions are on the PlayStation US product page.

Which platform should you choose?
If you already own one of the consoles
Start with the console you have. Both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are announced platforms, and no verified performance comparison supports buying the other system solely for GTA 6. If you are choosing between consoles for broader reasons, weigh your controller preference and existing platform setup alongside the game’s confirmed features.
If you are deciding between the PS5 and Xbox versions
- Choose PS5 if the documented DualSense, Tempest 3D AudioTech, or PS5 Pro support is particularly appealing to you.
- Choose Xbox if you prefer that console or its controller and account ecosystem; the available official information does not establish an Xbox performance disadvantage.
- Compare the live store listings for your region and the exact edition before ordering, since prices and offers can change.
What editions and formats are available?
Rockstar lists Standard and Ultimate editions, as well as a separate Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Standard includes the game; Ultimate includes additional items. The complete inclusion list should be checked on the current regional store listing. The separate upgrade may be purchased after redeeming a Standard Edition code.

Rockstar says the physical version is a box containing a download code, not a disc. Buy it only if a code-in-a-box suits you, and check the platform and region before purchase. Rockstar recommends purchasing from a retailer in the country associated with your platform account to avoid activation problems. Its support page says PlayStation codes have region restrictions, while Xbox codes are not region-locked.
For the current format and edition details, see Rockstar Support’s Platforms, Editions, and Versions page.

What do the listed prices and preorder offers mean?
At the time the PlayStation US product page was accessed in 2026, it displayed $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate. Those are US storefront prices from that access time, not guaranteed prices for other regions or later purchases. The same page advertised a month of GTA+ with a digital preorder, subject to the offer’s terms, including auto-renewal as presented. Check the live listing and subscription terms before ordering.
Rockstar’s June 24, 2026 announcement also described a Vintage Vice City Pack for preorders and purchases made before November 20, and a GTA+ month with digital preorders, subject to terms. These are time-limited offers, not permanent features of the game. Rockstar’s support page says digital preloads begin November 12, 2026. Confirm current eligibility and timing with the relevant store and Rockstar Support.
What is not confirmed yet?
- No reliable comparative console measurements establish a frame-rate, resolution, image-quality, or loading-time winner.
- The official sources reviewed describe GTA 6 as single-player; they do not confirm a multiplayer mode.
- Age ratings were not final on the US store pages reviewed: Xbox showed “Rating Pending,” and PlayStation said ratings were unconfirmed. Check the rating board for your region closer to release.
For platform and release listings, see Xbox’s GTA VI page and PlayStation’s US page.
