On a Honkai: Star Rail Character Event Warp, a 5-star character is guaranteed within 90 Warps. That 5-star has a 50% chance to be the featured character; if it is not, your next 5-star on a Character Event Warp is guaranteed to be featured. Starting from zero pity without an active featured guarantee, the worst-case ceiling is 180 Warps—not the amount every player should expect to need.

How 5-star pity works

Pity is the number of Warps made on a banner type since its last 5-star result. The specialist Honkai: Star Rail Wiki Warp reference lists a 0.6% base rate for a 5-star character on a Character Event Warp and a hard-pity limit of 90: if no 5-star has appeared in the previous 89 Warps, the 90th is guaranteed to produce one. The counter resets when a 5-star appears.

Hard pity is a maximum interval, not a target or an estimate of how many Warps a typical player needs. A 5-star can appear before Warp 90; the base rate does not mean each player will receive one after a fixed number of attempts.

What the 50/50 means

When a 5-star character appears on a Character Event Warp, there is a 50% chance it will be the banner’s featured character. If the result is a non-featured character, you have lost the 50/50, and the next 5-star character you get on a Character Event Warp is guaranteed to be featured.

The 50/50 describes the featured-character outcome when a 5-star is awarded. It does not mean there is a 50% chance of getting a 5-star on every individual Warp.

How many Warps can it take to guarantee the featured character?

From zero pity, with no featured guarantee already active, the worst case is two full 5-star cycles:

#1 Best Overall
HOYOVERSE Honkai: Star Rail Kafka 1/8 Scale Figure - Star Rail Live Ver.
  • Official HOYOVERSE figure of Honkai Kafka: Star Rail in the exclusive Star Rail LIVE Ver., ideal for game collectors
  • 1/8 scale figure stands approximately 12 inches tall, multi-color finish and stylized design true to the character of the Honkai universe: Star Rail
  • Decorative collectable without batteries required, perfect for display on shelves and environments of fans of the Honkai universe: Star Rail
  1. Up to 90 Warps for the first 5-star, which could be non-featured.
  2. If that result is non-featured, up to 90 more Warps for the guaranteed featured 5-star.

That makes 180 Warps the worst-case ceiling to secure the featured character from that starting point. It is not a prediction of average cost: an earlier 5-star or winning the first 50/50 reduces the number needed.

What carries over when a Character Event Warp ends?

Character Event Warp pity carries forward to later Character Event Warps. If you stop before getting a 5-star, the accumulated count remains for the next banner of this type. If your last 5-star was non-featured, the featured guarantee also carries to the next Character Event Warp, according to the detailed Warp reference.

HoYoverse’s Version 3.7 Event Warp notice states that the cumulative 5-star guarantee count carries between Character Event Warps and is independent of other Warp types. So a counter or guarantee from this banner type does not transfer to a Light Cone Event Warp or the regular Stellar Warp.

Which passes and banners are separate?

Character Event Warps are one of the time-limited Warp types; Light Cone Event Warps and regular Warps use different rules and counters. HoYoverse’s V1.0 Boarding Preparation Special Program overview distinguishes the pass types as follows:

Rank #2
RZAHUAHU H-I Star Rail Jingliu Figure Game Anime 1/6 PVC Figurines 11in

Warp type Pass used Shares Character Event Warp pity?
Character Event Warp Star Rail Special Pass Yes; Character Event Warps share their counter and featured guarantee.
Light Cone Event Warp Star Rail Special Pass No; it has a separate counter.
Stellar Warp Star Rail Pass No; it has a separate counter.
Departure Warp Star Rail Pass No; it has a separate counter.

Using the same kind of pass does not make two banner types share pity. Check the active Warp screen and its details when deciding where to spend passes.

Which non-featured characters can appear?

The possible non-featured 5-star pool is not necessarily a fixed list. HoYoverse’s Version 4.2 update details describe Celestial Invitation, which lets players select 7 characters from a pool of 13 5-star characters for the customizable non-featured list on Character Event Warp. That is the pool detail stated for Version 4.2, not a promise that the eligible roster will remain unchanged. Check the active in-game Warp details for the current featured character and eligible non-featured results.
