Valheim supports cross-play on Nintendo Switch 2, but it does not support cross-saves with PC, PlayStation, or other platforms. Iron Gate’s only stated save-sharing exception is access to Xbox saves on a PC copy launched through the Microsoft Store; Switch 2 is not included in that exception. Playing together across systems does not transfer or sync your world or character progression.
What works between Switch 2 and other platforms?

The Switch 2 edition launched on September 9, 2026, alongside Valheim 1.0. Nintendo of America lists cross-platform play and online co-op for 1–10 players on its Switch 2 product page. The player range is the store’s listed specification, not a statement about save compatibility.

Can you use your existing PC, Xbox, or PlayStation save on Switch 2?
No cross-platform save-transfer or sync route for Switch 2 is documented in Iron Gate’s published policy. That means you should not expect a character or world save from PC, Xbox, or PlayStation to continue on Switch 2, or a Switch 2 save to continue on those platforms.
The Xbox-to-PC exception is limited: Iron Gate says an Xbox player can access those saves on PC if Valheim is launched from the Microsoft Store. The FAQ does not extend that exception to Switch 2, nor does it say that other PC storefronts share saves with Xbox.

Does Nintendo Switch Online cloud backup change that?
No. Cloud backup and cross-platform save sync solve different problems. Nintendo UK’s Valheim listing says the game does not support Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud backup. That limitation concerns backing up Nintendo save data; it is not an alternative route for moving a Valheim save between Switch 2 and another platform.
Nintendo UK also says online modes require a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. That is an online-play requirement on the UK listing, not a cross-save feature; requirements may differ by region.

How do you join friends on another platform?
Iron Gate’s general Crossplay FAQ describes joining with a code. Its instructions are general cross-play guidance and are not Switch 2-specific troubleshooting; menu wording or presentation may vary by platform.
- The host starts a game or dedicated server.
- The host opens the pause menu and copies the Join code.
- The friend selects Join Game, chooses Add server, and pastes the code.
Iron Gate also notes that an Xbox player can join a dedicated server when cross-play is enabled. Consult the host’s server setup if a particular server or platform does not appear to accept the code.

Is Valheim on the original Nintendo Switch?
No. Iron Gate’s February 25, 2026 developer post, “Word From the Devs: Looking to the Future,” says the release is for Switch 2, not the original Switch. The port announcement also mentions mouse mode, touchscreen support for menus, advanced vibrations, and gyroscope aiming; those controls do not alter the cross-save policy.
