Yes—Minecraft is available in mainland China through localized PC and mobile editions operated by NetEase Games. That confirmation applies to the mainland service; it does not establish that every international edition, account, server, or marketplace is accessible on the same terms.
Which Minecraft versions are available in mainland China?
The official Minecraft China site identifies Minecraft as a Mojang game and says its PC and mobile versions in mainland China are operated by NetEase Games. NetEase’s user agreement likewise describes the China service as covering computer-client and mobile-device versions.

These sources establish a localized mainland offering, not blanket access to all editions. They do not confirm that an international client, an existing overseas account, global multiplayer servers, or a particular marketplace will work from mainland China.
Who operates Minecraft in China?
NetEase is the operator named by both the current China site and its user agreement. The arrangement has historical roots: in 2016, NetEase announced an exclusive license for Mojang’s mobile and PC editions in mainland China. That announcement described the original five-year agreement; it is not, by itself, evidence of the present contract term. Mojang’s beta announcement also described localized Pocket Edition and PC versions adapted by NetEase.

Does China ban Minecraft?
No categorical ban is supported by the current official mainland service information: Minecraft’s China site presents localized editions and identifies their operator. China does have an approval framework for imported online games. Government guidance describes content review and approval before operation, and a separate policy document discusses review of imported games and game-related derivatives. Those older policy documents provide regulatory context, not a complete assessment of current law or the rules for every edition and access route.
Accordingly, “Minecraft is banned in China” is too broad. The opposite blanket claim—that every international version and service is accessible—is also not established by these sources.

What should you check before trying to play?
- Platform and edition: The confirmed mainland offering is the NetEase-operated localized PC or mobile edition.
- Account: The cited official pages do not establish whether an existing international account can be used with the mainland service, or whether accounts can be transferred.
- Servers and marketplaces: The sources do not verify compatibility with global servers or access to international marketplaces.
- Where you are playing: The operator statements concern mainland China; they should not be generalized to every region described as China or to every network and service configuration.
For a definitive answer about a specific account or feature, check the current requirements and service notices for the edition you intend to use. The availability of the localized mainland editions does not answer those separate compatibility questions.
